That file has been around for years, since at least 2010 if my memory recalls correctly. It's part of the nvidia helper service iirc. There is no need to be scared.

I took a correctly cautious path of action in these troubled online times.

Your answer is like so many others I just now skipped through in the nV forum and, like you, not one promoter offered any OP an explanation as to what it is.
Why could I once use Control Panel without it, and now that it cannot be invoked alongside Control Panel, will it not allow Control Panel to open?
Control Panel hasn't changed much.
I only ever install the driver and PhysX as my computing setups are all traditional.
Just DDU out the NVIDIA Drivers via safe mode option from DDU Application; then once done, reboot and reinstall latest NVIDIA GPU Driver Suite.
