Cannot install new graphics card
I am having a problem installing an EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC in my computer.

What happens

I turn on the computer, I get the Lenovo logo. Nothing else. After about 30 seconds, I get a beep. Another 30 seconds or so, I get a second beep, and another 30 or so, a final beep.

Then the screen just goes black except for a cursor in the top right.

When I remove the card and use the onboard graphics, everything is just fine. No problems whatsoever.

Specs

Lenovo H430 desktop
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz
Windows 10 (64 bit)
8 GB RAM
600w PSU
HP 2009m monitor
Intel HD 2000 (through VGA)
EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC (through DVI)

BIOS Version/Date LENOVO ECKT14A, 2/20/2012

What I've tried

  • Removing and replacing the card repeatedly.
  • Made sure the power to the card (8-pin) was connected properly.
  • Letting the computer just sit awhile and see if it starts to work.
  • Resetting BIOS defaults.
  • Removing CMOS battery.
  • Looking for a BIOS update (I cannot find one)
  • Disabling Quick Boot
  • Disabling Hyperthreading.
  • Disabling virtualization.
  • Turning it on with just the DVI, just the VGA, and both. VGA does nothing when card is installed.
  • Changing the card's dual BIOS setting.
  • Removing all USB components except Keyboard/Mouse.

Anyone know what's going on and what else I Can do?

Is this not a newer bios for your system? http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Desktops-and-all-in-ones/Lenovo-H-Series-desktops/Lenovo-H430-Desktop?tabName=Downloads&linkTrack=Mast:SubNav:Support:Drivers%20and%20Software|Drivers%20and%20Software

No, actually. ECJY24AUS is the wrong one, it won't even install. From what I've found searching, there are several different H430s, but that BIOS is to a very old one, running 32-bit.

The don't make it easy then. That's the only bios version which comes up on all the h430 models for me.

Do you know what make and model your motherboard is?

This is what msinfo32 tells me:

BIOS Version/Date LENOVO ECKT14A, 2/20/2012
SMBIOS Version 2.7
Embedded Controller Version 255.255
BIOS Mode Legacy
BaseBoard Manufacturer LENOVO
BaseBoard Model Not Available
BaseBoard Name Base Board
Platform Role Desktop
Secure Boot State Unsupported
PCR7 Configuration Binding Not Possible

So I have no idea and no idea how to find out.

Found this, it may be you aren't permitted to use a non lenvo card - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-E-H-K-M-Q-Y-and-ErazerX/H430-Graphics-Card-Install/m-p/855923#M7978

I certainly hope that is not the case, ugh.

You have to contact them and ask. Seems like a good way to lose customers though.

Hi Espresso, I have exactly the same problem with the Lenovo H430 - did you find a solution?
Staryn 2017 年 2 月 11 日 下午 4:26
No I didn't. I contacted EVGA about it, the computer is just not compatible.

Hello,

I apologize for the installation issues. Based on your CPU model I can only assume the system is over 5 years old and will very likely not work with any geforce 700, 900, or 10 series graphics cards.

There are a few steps to try. For Lenovo desktops, press F1 or F12 to enter into the BIOS Setup.

Under the tab "Security" there will be a "Secure Boot" menu where the only option in the menu would be to Enable/Disable Secure Boot. Disable the Secure Boot option and then move over to the "Startup" tab.

Under the Startup tab, change "Launch CSM Configuration" to Enable, keep "Boot Mode" as Automatic, and change "Boot Priority" to Legacy First. While still under startup, change "Quick Boot" to Disable.

With those settings changed, Save/Exit out of the BIOS. Once those settings are changed you will be able to save and exit.

When the computer starts into Windows shut it down, and install the graphics card normally. The graphics should now be displaying through the video card.

If these options are not available or do not change the outcome of the graphics card installation you will need to purchase a new system with up to date hardware or consider building your own system.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with in regard to your EVGA products by contacting support at support@evga.com or 888-881-3842 for further assistance.

Thank you,
EVGA
