Weird problem - Ghosting and tearing caused by hardware?
Hi guys. So I have been trying to wrap my mind around this issue for the last couple of days, and no amount of googling seems to bring up any solution.

I have for a time observed a change in my computer. When I am on the desktop the mousepointer seems to trail and ghost and it is especially obvious if i move a window around fast. For some reason the issue seems more severe at night when my .flux application kicks in.

Well now I realised that it isn't something I am making up. While playing Hitman (2016) I saw some weird ♥♥♥♥ when a NPC was using a mop on the floor. The movement in the mop made it ghost and blur like crazy and when opening doors I expierence this weird artifact where the movement of the door will leave vertical lines if I don't move my character. The picture just seems more blurry than usual but I have no clue to what is causing it. It isn't more then a couple of months since I formatted my PC and the issue is more recent than that. I have checked if the issue is with my screen, but it isn't. The problem persist on other monitors as well.

I have 60hz 1080p monitors in native resolution. The issue is not confined to one game in particular, it just seems very intrusive in Hitman.

I know this is not a lot to go on, but I am in desperate need of help. I have no idea what is causing this issue!

Screenshot from Hitman. Look in the doorway for the vertical lines (you might have to enlarge):

I really hope some of you can help me out pinpointing the issue. Thx in advance!

If the mouse is stuttering around clean the censor with a cotton bud.

Thx for the advice, but I am certain it is not a mouse issue, hence the artfacting ingame...

Well cleaning your mouse might fix its stutterimg issue not sure about the rest. Is your displau cable plugged in properly?

It could be a sign that the VRAM on your GPU is starting to fail. You could try underclocking it and see if that helps.

Yes both cables are pluggged in. I do not believe it to be a cable or monitor problem since the problem is persitent on both my monitors via two different cables...

I didn't think of that actually. I have no experience with over- or underclocking. Is there any other way to troubleshoot such an issue?

It's fairly simple, just download MSI afterburner and use it to reduce the clock speeds.

It is an AMD card you are using?

It is not, I run nvidia. 790.

You tried cleaning/wiping out GPU Drivers and try older one? Really no point in using newer than 368.81 with that GPU.

If the visual issue is still present, then it is most likely game settings; such as Ambient Occlusion.

^this

Start with your drivers first. Revert back to an older driver to see if that fixes the problem.

I just reverted back and did a complete reinstall of drivers. Still the same issue. My mouse pointer and most white text is showing trailing and ghosting when i move windows around on my desktop, and i have poor blurry gfx in most games...

What is your monitor? Brand and model? Some monitors have different settings that allow you to change the response time. Many monitors call this gaming mode. Check to see if that has changed.

Also, do you or a friend have another gaming monitor you can try so we can isolate the problem better?

If you are ghosting on Windows Desktop, then I would seriously consider that it is solely a Display issue; as in poor TV/Monitor.
Blondie Jan 6, 2017 @ 1:50pm
It's an Asus VE278N 60hz. I have tested on another monitor and get exactly the same result which leads me to believe it is hardware or OS based. I am running in no gaming mode, I even reset the screens to factory condition.

Then you need to try a different GPU.

Most Monitors, the mode is not a refresh mode of any kind, they are usually just Color Presets is all. For that Display, try the Theater Mode. It can be a little dark for games that have night time; but overall it is the better mode for color richness and the richest grey/black tones.

If factory default now; then ensure Splendid Mode and AI Light are OFF

Well that sucks because i don't have another one lying around. Guess I will have to try a pc format...
