DDI-D to VGA Cable?

So I dared to tread into the boiling water of computer upgrades and I got a new graphics card (EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1060) and it had a DDI-D cable, and not the VGA cable my monitor has. I figured I would ♥♥♥♥ up like this somehow, but I want to know if this is a good idea. Also, when I tried to remove my old graphics card, I was stopped by a small screw. It is so small, and I don't have a screwdriver that can fit it, so is there like a set of small tools designed for working on computers I can buy? Thank you people for the answers!

If your monitor still uses VGA, you really should think of replacing it with a non-ancient model.

You require an active convertor for DVI-D to VGA as VGA requires an analogue signal. You can use a simple adaptor for DVI-I to VGA though.

As for the screw, the only screw should be on the expansion slot cover and a standard phillips screwdriver should do the job.

So either converter will work? The DVI-I converter is compatible with my DVI-D port?

Newer generation NVIDIA GPUs dont allow VGA connections anymore
i had to switch to HDMI when i got my 1060 last month. which im sorta glad i did as it looks normal under Win10, unlike when i tried it with my previous GPUs under Win7.

So you are pretty much screwed until you get a monitor that uses DVI or HDMI.

And No guys, a Converter wont work because its STILL VGA. a new monitor is the only option.

And yes, there are PC tools you can buy, but any small enough screw driver will do, dont use a magnetic one tho

This is incorrect, they simply do not have a vga output as it is outdated. You can still convert a hdmi port to vga or even a DVI-D with an active convertor.

A passive convertor will not work but an active one will. Problem is a passive adaptor is cheap, an active convertor genrally isn't and it can be cheaper to get a new monitor.

If the card has a DVI-I output, that has the analogue signals required for a VGA connection and an adaptor which costs a few pounds will do the job. Although GPU's used to include a DVI-I to VGA convertor if they had that port.

At the end of the day, if you monitor only has a VGA input, it's probably time to replace it anyway.

But STRAIGHT VGA to DVI will most likely not work work.

A DVI-D port is digital, that needs an active convertor to use with a VGA monitor, as I said, these can be more expensive than a new monitor.

A DVI-I port also has an analogue signal, you will notice it has more ports. For that, you can use a straight convertor as it has the analogue signals a VGA monitor requires.

You can get DisplayPort (GPU) to VGA (Display) Cable for this purpose.

We warn folks the newer GPUs (AMD RX 4xx / NVIDIA GTX 10xx) no longer support VGA directly off the GPU (not even via DVI to VGA adapter like previous Gens) So yes, something to watch out for.

If you can afford to upgrade your GPU, and all you have is VGA as available connection, upgrade to a better Monitor.
