R9 M470x any good?
I've been eyeing the Alienware Alpha R2 for some as an alternative to a notebook, though the only information i can find about the console's GPU is a GameFAQs post claiming that it's the equivalent of a Desktop R7 370.

The R9 M470X is a re-brand of the R9 M385X which appears to be inferior to the 750Ti.

Alienware aren't necessarily bad performing, but they are extremely overpriced just for the name. You're paying for the brand name, not performance..

I am aware, though between Alienware's brand name and a "gaming" laptop being an oxymoron, I have to wonder which is the lesser of two evils. IIRC, said laptops often sport a 950M and are clocked at the low to mid 2.x GHz range

Buy an Alienware case and fill it with your own stuff. Save $$$$.

The thing is. I already have a proper desktop, though I will have moments where i'll be stuck without it longer than i'd like, and my current laptop from 2010 is nearing the end of its life, already seeing some crashes when playing GZDOOM.

Also, i don't think a regular desktop can fit within Air Canada's unchecked luggage restrictions.

Gaming laptop used to be an oxymoron but the 10xx series has done a lot to change that as the new mobile GPU's are as powerful as the desktop versions. You can even get one with a 1050 starting from around $700 I think.
