My system won't detect my PCIE SSD
I am actually asking this for my brother. He recently bought a m.2 PCIE SSD for his computer. The problem, however, is that when when we plugged it into his PC, his computer would not detect it at all.

Here's the whole story:
-He bought a 2 slot adapter card that allowed him to plug a Samsung SSD into his computer through a SATA port. The other slot on the adapter allowed him to plug in an Intel 600p series m.2 SSD through a PCIE port.
-The Samsung SSD had been working fine like any storage device should. However, when we plugged in the Intel 600p SSD, the computer would not detect it at all. The only thing that seemed to happen was some sort of error with a "PCI device" in the device manager.

The error was something about:
-"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."

or

-"This Device isn't using any resources because it has a problem"

So, does my brother need to install some drivers for the Intell SSD to work? When we looked at tutorials of people installing the Intell 600s SSD into their computer, they didn't install any drivers. What's going on?

EDIT:
Okay, guys, thanks for all the tips and help. However, we decided to just send back the Intell SSD. We tried booting from it and installing windows like {chiefputsi✖️ping} suggested, but even THAT didn't work. The windows disk we used couldn't install windows on the SSD for some reason, so we said 'screw it' and are sending back the SSD.

Thanks again for all the replies and tip.

You need to initialize the drive.

My brother's computer does not detect the PCIE SSD at all--meaning that it does not show up in the disk managment or the device manager. There is nothing to initialize.

Does it show up in the BIOS?

Also....

Check if Disk part is able to see the SSD drive. Get into Command Prompt (Hit enter after each line)

diskpart
list disk

maybe it is a limitation of the adapter.. read manual of the adapter and check if there are steps needed to be done to allow two m2 SSD devices
Also try a different PCIE slot; they all share resources to a certain extent; some PCIE slots just will not be a good fit due to shared resources with something else on the Chipset (LAN, USB, SATA, the primary PCIE_X16 slot; etc.)

If another PCIE slot does not do the trick; then try moving the SATA Drives to other ports.

You can also try disconnecting all SATA Drives and try the PCIE Card + SSD by itself and run a test. The BIOS should see that as an available Bootable Device if it is seeing it properly. Then try installing an OS via USB Flash Drive to it for testing purposes; such as a free Linux distro; or Win10 64bit

Please post the make and model of the adapter card.

and the motherboard. some have different placements for which slot the pcie m.2 needs to be in.

Here's the ebay page from which I bought the adapter from
- http://www.ebay.com/itm/322386678970

Here's the motherboard model: MSI Gaming 970

The PCIE does show up in the BIOS, but the only option it has is to boot from it, from what my brother could see.
did you put it in the bottom slot?

are there any drivers for the adapter card?

I don't know what you mean by bottom slot (put what in the bottom slot of what?), but there were no drivers that came with the adapter.
the m.2 slot marked pci-e on the card you purchased on ebay.

not even generic PnP drivers?

generic plug and play drivers are installed/contained within windows OS.
If the OP is using too many PCIe lanes with other devices (GPU, sound cards, etc.) would that not also possibly disable any other added devices that go over the PCIe lane cap ?

For example, on my Maximus Hero VII, you cannot have but one GPU slop populated and the bottom PCIe X 4 slot active and useable at the same time. You can do either or but not both, as the other slots are disabled if so.

I have one GPU and the bottom slot with my PCIe X 4 SSD using all 4 lanes.

Just wondering what other devices the OP has in his board/build.

My brother has a Nividia Gigabyte G1 Gaming 4gb Edition GPU plugged into the top PCI-E slot on his motherboard. We tried plugging the adapter into the other PCI-E slot just bellow the GPU. This one SSD we plugged into the adapter worked (the Samsung SSD I mentioned), but when we put in the Intell SSD (either along with the Samsung SSD in the adapter or just the Intell SSD alone in the adapter) the computer did not pick up the Intell SSD except for in the BIOS.

I see. Thanks for the very detailed information here, and excuse me since my thoughts did not seem helpful. That is a bit strange indeed.

EDIT...
Have you tried with only the GPU and the Intel SSD ? And all other PCIe devices removed ?
