If the controller is actually installed correctly in your OS, then Steam should see it as "Generic / X-Input Controller" if not then something is wrong with how it's setup in the OS.
How do I set it up to work with the controller? You still need to use WiinUPro or something similar with it right, just like if you were using a regular bluetooth dongle ?
They are cheap and "just work"
In some cases, nostalgia. In other cases, a game's control scheme can function and "just work" much better with the controller for the system it was intended for.
More applicable to games that were made for a specific platform that is NOT Steam, but even Steam does have some games ported from consoles where it originated (and for which the game was designed).
