Badges

Look the badges for games are nice, as few as there are to the percentage of games available on Steam. What's really lacking is more event badges, more achievemnt badges, how about a comunity friend badge, ect..

There just really needs to be more than buying cards to get badges.

At some point which I think has passed; the current Steam level process is based on how much money one spends on things OTHER than games. It's rather forming the beginigs of a class system. The rich getting better treatment.

It would just really be nice for a slight Steam badge shift in perspective.

well all the level thing is like buying some servers and yes that cost some $$ nothing to do abut it
And i am sure in time they will release more events and ways to get more badges for your level
But its not like its locking you from any thing really important on steam or you cant go into any game because you are not 100+ level or something...

True. However since the whole system blocks friends at certain level points, that's not entirely all there is to Steam.

+1 more free badges that get you invloved with the community is a good thing. Make them challenging and fun to get , and worth double XP (200xp) maybe more.

Exactly, there should be a lot more to badges beyond buying cards.

There are some good points on here, i do belive if you have all the free badges (every year, every sale, community ones and so on) you will be lvl 10. The only thing I know of that make badges any sort of use is the fact that the higher lvl you are increases your chances at a booster pack. its like 20% better per 10 lvls so people who are lvl 100 have a 200% better chance of getting a booster then someone whos lvl 7. Other then that badges are fairly usless i think...

Valve introduced badges to award those who contribute to the community, but you're right... it's mostly just about spending money. There are better ways to contribute to steam. Getting workshop ratings, making guides, etc. Yes, there will always be people who will try to cheat, but I'm sure Valve can find a way around that. As for your suggestions, I think more event badges would be great. Valve has mentioned that they would like to add achievement badges, but need to find a way around cheaters. I see where you're going with the friend badge, but I think that would encourage gamers to "collect" friends, which is just awful.
