Once I buy a game it should be removed from my wishlist automatically
It's a little annoying going through my wishlist and seeing all the games I've gotten over the past few weeks and months still listed there. It doesn't seem like much trouble to have Steam automatically remove them as I buy them.

Don't they disappear if you buy them through your wish list instead of through the store?
(have never bought anything I'v wishlisted so I was just wondering)

I've never bought a game that way but I doubt it since the wishlist is just a list of links to the game pages themselves. But even if it worked that way it wouldn't always be helpful since I buy Steam codes from other web sites, too. I just bought Borderlands 2 from Amazon and redeemed the code. There was no reason to go to my wishlist at all (except to delete Borderlands 2 from it).

Where did you buy these games from? If you buy them from Steam they'll mostly be removed from your wishlist. If you purchased keys at another retailer and entered them into Steam they will remain in your wishlist until you remove them manually.

One exception I've noticed is that if you add a game to your wishlist and, for whatever reason, down the road the AppID changes the game won't be removed from your wishlist if you purchase it. This is actually fairly common.

EDIT: One other thing...if you purchase keys from another retailer and activate them on Steam, in addition to not being removed from your wishlist, your friends won't see a notice at /my/home that you now own such and such game.

I bought Borderlands 2 and the season pass from Amazon. You're right about the notices too. Redeeming codes doesn't let your friends know the games you bought. It would seem like such easy fixes.

I don't think anything is broken, but that's just my opinion. Things as simple as "remove from wishlist on purchase" and "notify friends of purchase" are probably considered features. And these features become available to you once you use Steam. You didn't use Steam to obtain these features when you purchased elsewhere.

I could be wrong and there may be a bug here, but it seems a little too deliberate to be a bug.

It's not a bug, but a feature.
It's one of those little obnoxious stuff stores add to entice people to do things their way.

Most the time it is removed. The only time I have not seen it removed was when adding a key for the game.

Other then that, it gets removed when you buy it.

Don't know about a gifted copy (not picked through th wish list) as no one has ever sent me one.

After having purchased around 1300 games and 1000 DLCs.
I never had ANY game removed itself from your wishlist.

That's how you know it's a feature. "Use us and it's all good."

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
