Gender Options & more!

Hello!


i have just an idea for steam. some girl friends and me thought it would be much more nice if steam could create more profil options. the most important for us is the gender! it would be so great if you can choose the gender and much more cool would be if the gender symbol is big next to the avatar in steam light grey or something. its also great for the steam company because they see which girls play which games so you can see how are some games works by the female and male . so you see the age and gender and which gender bought that and where you can invest for games in future. maybe at all more profil setting like google+ , youtube and what so else. it should be not to much social network but a bit more ! so maybe come more steam users. because you have the games , the profil for friends and co and the thrid thing would be the half social network thing like google+. thats only an idea from us girls but the most great thing would be the gender select :-)

P.S. ... steam is at all a very very great platform . everything works great and the design is fantastic! everything is perfect! only my idea is missing *g*. and sorry for my bad english but i think the english support is the main support and more close to the steam managers to tell them the idea ;-)

Well talking abut gameing characters if you think abut it males and females dont act the same.. so you want them to set a female character (lets say for COD) and then what? record all the game in two voices and as well will it look right for a female to do what a male dose? or do they need to make new story for each one? like i am sure they will not talk abut some things if the character is a female... so you have to change so many things... i dont think that will be fair for them..

Why is this an issue? Are you offended by her profile? If so, report her and move on.

It's fine to not agree with the idea but you are getting far more worked up over this than you really should. There are women that play games and not all of them want to hide. Get over it.

I'm not so much worked up as annoyed at the idea. More women is always a good thing. No question there. I question the need to drag sex into our gaming community. One can already express their sexual orientation in their profile -- through the use of a name or simply saying "I'm a man or woman."

I agree. If may surprise people to know, but the majority of females on Steam currently have gender neutral or even male profiles. They do that to avoid the attention of idiot guys. I think adding gender makes it seem obligatory and frankly many women would be put off by that.

In a male dominated community, some women like to state their gender. That's not flaunting. I mean you could equally say that declaring your nationality is flaunting it. Nope. But some people are proud of who and what they are.

I mean I hate to say this, but arguments like that are part of the reason many women DON'T declare their gender in the gaming community. And also the reason why some want to stuff it down your throat!!

I mean really guys, if you want more women to be open about their involvement in the community then you have to stop being so sexist and agressive towards them.

I don't see why it can't be optional. Really I just don't understand why you are being so agressive about this.
