Support for big picture on windows XP
I do like the big picture interface and even though i dont plug my computer into my tv and play videogames on a tv i was thinking of buying a xbox 360 controller (if it works with controller games because theres other joystick and game controllers too) and using it to play some games. But i have XP so i cant run it :(

BPM does not run under XP. Features needed only run on DX10 or greater.
And Microsoft is going to drop support for XP in a year. It's simply not worth the time trying to make BPM work in a OS on it's last days.

Last days.... of support. It still has FAR greater market share than Linux AND Mac combined, yet they provide support for them.
Plus, if I'm not wrong (and I'm not), on these systems BPM works under OpenGL, and XP has OpenGL.

Perhaps it's time to actually move to windows 7 or 8.

Support lifecycle
On April 8, 2014, all support for Windows XP, including security updates and hotfixes, will be terminated. Users will still be able to download old updates and hotfixes from Windows Update. Microsoft recommends that users upgrade to Windows 7.
You have a bit more than a year before Microsoft totally pulls the plug on XP.
Expect also within that timeframe Valve dropping XP support altogether for the Steam Client.
(The Steam client is already non suported on XP-SP1 systems)

Ok, end of support from Microsoft. So what?
It's not like it'll stop working.
Also, Microsoft dropped support for XP SP2 on July of 2010 and Valve has supported it until August 2012.

No but any or all future drivers might not be functional on it. Games might not run correctly without the correct frameworks and stuff provided by Microsoft, which they will intentionally program to be completely nonfunctional on xp.

Naw your old games will work fine. It's the new games that you would have to watch out for. Also, it's over a year away :p, surely it's not hard to save enough money to buy a new operating system or even a few pc upgrade parts in that time frame.

Only $99.99 for the OEM Windows 7. Don't need to but a new computer.

But some, like me, need a new computer to handle Windows 7. Plus, "only $100"? Like they fall from the sky.
I don't see why should I pay to play games I already payed for. If they make Steam not compatible with XP I hope they at least leave the option to not update it.

If your computer can't handle Windows 7, then there are a lot of games you haven't been able to play.

If your going complian about being left out of a feature due to an outdated system, you should probebly just get a console next time.

What games I can or can't play is not the discussion here. And I'm not talking about Big Picture. I'm talking about Valve making Steam non-functioning on XP.
