Steam User Ratings for Games
Please add a function for users to rate games (with a reason).

Kinda like metascore ratings but from the actual users... Quite amazed to see how this isnt a part of steam already.

Would increase consumer confidence, stop mis-advertisment and give people a real idea of what they are buying and not just crap.

Only people having purchesed the game could rate for obvious reasons.

And the probelm with metascore rating is that it doesnt cover all games and it is by default biased as it is written by one person(AFAIK), a communial rating shows a much clearer picture of the game.

So please Steam add an ability to rate games.
If there is a reason why we can't then why not?

Thanks

It would be abused and inacurate. Just ike the one on metacritic. That is why Steam lists the Metacritic score insead of the users scores.

People would post a bad review for getting baned in a game too. Look at the last wave of BO2 cheaters. I bet they flooded the Metacritic site to bring down the score after that.

Metacritic is not biased. It doesn't even write reviews. It takes review scores from several places and uses a formula to combine them into one score.

There are too many problems woth the idea.

Metacritic score 89/100, based on 35 Critics. Not from a single person.

And you think a mass of internet trolls, fanboys, and haters are gonna somehow be less biased?
In a word: No.

This would be too prone to abuse. Plus, would you like it if you got a game on steam, only to have haters downvote, giving a poor score next to your game? Probably not.

Every mobile app store has the same thing and it works fine. If someone abuses it then they can be reported. and people can only vote once, and only if they have bought the game, dont see how the very few people getting banned and raging will affect the overall score.

Do you see the difference between a $1.00 app, and a $60 game?
There's a lot more at stake here.

Haters are paying you money beacuse they bought your game, i'd be happy. money from haters is still money.
Then you tell steam that trolls have downvoted your game they reset the counter and ban all the trolls from rating. everyone is happy, except trolls.

I think you are exagerating the amount people troll on the internet, i know its a lot but when they can be identified and tracked like on steam people dont. if somone spends $60 on a game i dont think they would hate the company that much to pay them $60 to give them 1 bad rating do you?

BO2 recently banned a few hundred players. Not a few players. That could be 200 negitive reviews. If they re-buy the game, it could double.

Apple has had problem with this too. There system is a bit odd. They only show the rating of the current version of the app. If someone wants rest their reviews, they just change a few things and update it. Since you can't leave more then one review, the new verion can't be rated by previous users.

So let me get this straight:
you're saying that if anyone tells Valve that trolls have been downvoting, or upvoting for that matter, then Valve would reset the voting, removing all votes that don't agree with your opinion, then they would somehow magically ban all trolls on the internet.
Can you see at least one thing wrong with that? Because there are way to many to list.

okay lets take a wild guess at 25% of the people who buy a game rate it...

so 200 bad reviews and of the other player guessing 500,000 only 125,000 rate it... we can see the affect that 200 bad rating will have < 1%
PentaPenta 18/dez./2012 às 12:24
I think you're severly underestimating the amount of people who will rate it. I'd say 25% at least will be the amount of people that rate it bad just because they didn't enjoy it. And that could be a lot more for a really bad game.

When i was reffering to 'you' i meant pusblisher not anyone :).
well not reset just remove the votes of people who have been accused of trolling. If thier account history shows many bad rating with BS reason then remove them from ratings.

And many people understand trolls will abuse the system but not by a lot.

So your telling me people rating a bad game as bad is wrong? Thats the whole point so people dont have to buy ♥♥♥♥ games. Its not our fault a company made a bad game.

And yeah i made up my figures but you seem my point # of trolls compared to # or legitimate ratings will not affect the overall rating much.

Oh, that makes at least a little more sense. To quote Shakespeare:
"How absolute the knave is! We must speak by the
card, or equivocation will undo us"
