Create a Discussion Page Forum for Game Owners
A "public" forum where anyone can post anything, as we have now.

Add a page where only game owners can post. Anyone can see it, but only people who own the game in their library can post there.

I'm so sick of this culture war nonsense clogging up every page for every game I own when I'm just trying to talk about the damn game.

Game developers can already restrict all subforums except one to be available for posting to game owners only.

It needs to be default then.

That's just your opinion. The default is to delegate moderation to Valve who is taking a rather minimal-liberal hands-off approach with regards to access.

I'm sorry is this a suggestion forum? Yes this is just my idea.
Yeah but you're suggesting something that already exists.
Devs already have this ability. Whether its the default or not is irrelevant, if a dev wants it, they will make it so regardless of the default. I mean it's basically just clicking a yes/no button in the interface.

Some devs do, but most devs see that as counter productive since, ..and this may surprise you. Prospecrtive buyers have a tendancy to pop into forums and ask questions..

Valve puts the choice in the developers hands.
So Developers get to choose if they want all bit 1 section for owners only. indie Devs are great at banning troublemakers so they don't need to restrict sections.

They can't make all subforums restricted even if abuse is rampant? But then it's not like Valve detects rampant abuse anymore.
People usually post in the first subforum regardless of what their thread is about.

If the developer chooses to, that of course would not be your choice. You can ask them nicely if they can change it on each game forum. Best get to it if you want it actually done.

This^ is why Valve moved New to Steam to the top of the main forums list years ago and moved Help & Tips down.

Developers already have the option to default to a page of their choice and where those without the game xan post.

The Ready or Not forum default page is pinned topics.

They also allow anyone who does not have the game to post:

I see an awful lot of people insisting that it's in the devs' hands and that it should stay there.
This is clearly not working.
Valve needs to step in and take some kind of action.
The devs either don't care, don't know how to act or are simply too scared to take action because it will have a more devastating financial impact on them if they block a disruptive group from interacting on their board and have them rally behind a boycott.
There needs to be a systemic change that only valve can provide.

This guy gets it. People will squeal no matter how justly moderators handle their pages. This allows people their precious spaces for their social justice war but also give the rest of us a much needed break from it.
The vast majority of users have no complaints about the forum as is. It is only a tiny minority that are demanding changes.

The vast majority don't use the forums at all. I would like to not be bombarded by culture war BS by people who do not even own the game in question. Do you disagree with that?
