Allow uploading WebM video for guides and content in Game Hubs
Could someone implement the ability to add WebM video to guides and the content in Game hubs? I have noticed that a lot of people use animated gifs to show something that happens in the game, but often these are unoptimized and have an extermely large file size, as well as slowing down the page load times when many animated gifs are trying to be loaded at once. But WebM has come quite a bit, and it can retain fairly high quality video, while keeping a low file size. Here is an example of a webM video: WebM demo [containerchan.org]
It is only about 450kb for a large, almost two minute video, while an animated gif of the same size and length could easily reach 5 Megabytes. There would also not be the problem of a all of the videos trying to load at once, like what gif does, when loading a page. You would have to click on the video to make it start playing.

What does everyone else think about this idea to allow uploading of WebM video?

I think it would require special handling from Steam browser. It's a fairly recent thing, and isn't it competing with HTML5 ?
I don't know how to handle such things, so the more difficult it is, the worthier it should be for Valve. Replacing GIFs, however, seems to be worth for users, but I don't know what's in it for Valve itself.
I agree.

PS : It just came to my mind that Garry's Mod records indeed WebM videos, so it might be an argument for your suggestion.
I would suggest using a youtube link in the mean time.

So, maybe now? It's 2018 and we still upload GIF like feral animals ;-). Not to mention that the size cap of 2mb is killing quality. I, for one, embed animated gifs in the community news and autoplaying embedded webm would be most welcome. Not to mention bloated transfer, after all, they are hosted on Valve's CDN.
