Sell Steam to Microsoft.
While Valve has stagnated and stopped making good games, Microsoft has been killing it recently.

Instead of chasing that easy and lazy lootbox money, Microsoft are focused of making bigger and better games, constantly improving existing ones and increasing the value their ecosystem offers to the player.

In contrast, Valve currently operates much like a headless chicken, without a clear vision or goals, and it shows.

Bugs that could be easily fixed take forever to fix because developers at Valve can simply choose what they want to do so nobody wants to work on the "boring stuff". Remember the back button bug?

Even worse, all the money Valve is making isn't being invested into creating great games the way other platform holders do with their profits. CD Projekt delivered us The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Epic utterly outplays Steam in the live service front as Fortnite becomes almost a completely new game every season in addition actively developing new game modes, and don't even get me started on Sony and Nintendo whose contributions to videogame history are still unmatched to this day, although Microsoft is catching up.

Valve is the only platform that doesn't take it's profits and use them to contribute more great games to videogame history. Instead we get stickers and clown rewards and skins of artificial rarity that only the remarkably lucky or absurdly wealthy will be able to acquire.

It would also be great for gamers if the next Steam Deck ran on windows. Stop trying to make linux happen, it's never gonna happen. Windows is synonymous with PC gaming.

Valve has already contributed all it had to contribute to Videogame history. Time to let someone better take the wheel. Someone who still sees games as an art form, not just a business.

I kindly disagree. While it's a shame Valve isn't pumping out new games, Steam as a platform is by far the most enjoyable platform to experience playing games and sharing gaming with friends and loved ones, there is simply so much Steam as a platform offers me as a user to facilitate my gaming experience the way I want to as oppose to how they want me to experience it.

I recently purchased a Steam Deck and it's truly remarkable how that device has increased the value of my library of games, my ability to experience playing those games, and even my own PC as I'm using my PC for gaming more than ever since getting a Steam Deck (Steam Cloud is amazing). The fact Steam has forums like this built directly into the platform opening up channels of communication for Steam community members is something unique to Steam and is only here because of Valve, PS and Xbox unfortunately lack any such means of community engagement directly through their respective platforms, and this is not even mentioning things like the Steam Workshop and community created content being available directly through Steams platform.

Steam is by far the most open and flexible platform for gaming and this freedom and flexibility would sadly be lost if a corporation like Microsoft were to take over.

Why do you think this way, Valve is most known for steam, like you said sell steam,
steam is a platform for buying games, Valve shouldn't sell steam because they are lacking
in game development. They are doing pretty well when it comes to steam, and steam
as a platform for downloading games is the best, better than (all the rest-) any way of
downloading games on windows.

So steam isn't a game

Microsoft has bought out game companies, so like legally speaking yes they are making
banger's, but the haven't really made any good originals.

Ehh- idk same as the first, you want them to sell steam, not their games.

So? like ya'll whined when it was invested in Half life Alyx, which was a new game that from
what I've heard is a good game.

It wouldn't be great for gamer's for a multitude of reasons, we'll keep on trying, we are
very close to the finish line, a lot of games on steam can run with little to no work using Proton,
and just because it is synonymous doesn't mean it is good.

Linux on the other hand, well, for starters you can
change your Desktop Environment (Which is like what Windows has), If you
prefer organization then a Window Manager. You can change your init system. You can
change your package manager, actually you know what, screw the package managers,
we can compile from source (with gentoo). Actually screw the idea of a Distro, let's use Linux
From Scratch. Oh yeah also last note, Linux is open source, security is better, and you can
make changes to it.

Also if you think Linux sucks, then why do 80% of servers run Linux?

In conclusion Linux is insanely customization

Also note.
Honestly, in the kindest words I can put, you are objectively wrong, I wish I could communicate
what I am feeling after I read that. I am in complete and utter pain, knowing people like you
who think that way exist. Microsoft windows is complete dog poopoo, Windows 10 and '11 are
the exact same, there is nothing different.

Microsoft see's everything as a business Sherlock.

Edit: Note, if Steam were to get sold to Microsoft, I am pirating.

Edit 2 (forgot to add): The way you say this makes it sound like Microsoft already has a good
PC platform, which they don't (aside from steam), Minecraft Launcher, sucks I need to sign into
Microsoft store to play, Minecraft the game is mid same as before.

"Instead of using something open source and less resource intensive, I want a public company who overload their OS with telemetrics to dictate my Steam Deck's usage. I refuse to listen to any actual concerns and I don't give a damn about human livelihoods or enshittification. I am very smart." - FOXDUDE69, 2024
It's not really understandable to always get this type of generic response, when all you ask for is an os that is capable of running your games.

Lots of telemetry is collected in games, intrusive 3rd party launchers and questionable drms, practices steam has no absolutely problems with partaking in. So I'm really sorry, but there's definitely a big grain of hypocrisy in your accusation.

SteamOS is not the hailsbringer that many think it is.

Source code is here https://repo.steampowered.com/steamos/ if you are worried check the source code.
I also don't believe that it is their business to tell game companies to stop adding spyware to their
games, that is your job, your community.

It's not about steamOS, it's about the software you are running with it. Because at the end of the day you are still running the (in your eyes) bad windows software, just with insane effort. It took me hours to install some battlenet games. And the best part is, there are so many unsupported games, as a gaming os steamOS is a fail.

The millions of Decks sold say otherwise.

That's a handheld portable. Likely not someones main gaming platform.
Gabe used to work for MS

He left because he hated it.

The odds of him selling Steam are already low, the odds of it going to MS are basically 0.

It can improve though. COnsider what windows support is like everytime a new OS is released. Plus there's Proton. Not all the games that are playable are listed as playable yet m8

no and bugs take time to find out what is wrong.

If I can make people understand one thing about software development, it is that bugs are only easy to fix once they have already been fixed.

In the same way that I could very easily provide you with a text file containing the text of any Wikipedia article or any book on Project Gutenberg, and a novice film editor could make Citizen Kane because someone else already did all of the work.

Once you have figured out what's causing a bug, you have effectively fixed the bug. And figuring out what's causing the bug is not something that you can always know ahead of time how long it will take. For something as complex as a web browser, especially a problem that doesn't happen reliably, it can take a long time for someone to figure out what's going on.

Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop is marked as Unsupported and yet it works perfectly for everyone who doesn't have Valve's weird internal LAN setup.

It could be a comma in a completely different part of the code that should have nothing to do with where the bug is, causing the issue

I'm out of the loop for big AAA game world, so I'll take your word for it.

Even if what you say is true, better studio productions =/= better management or marketing. Kind of like with Disney; fantastic animators, artists, and writers, awful corporate bean counters who cripple their talent and sabotage their projects.

Microsoft would probably force Steam users to pay a monthly subscription just to keep their accounts, if their treatment of the Windows 11 system is anything to go by. Steam's purpose is to host so many more games than Valve's own, we only have to buy the license to most of them once, and just passively having an account is free. I'll take Valve owning Steam until the end of its days, assuming things continue to be the way they are.
Why not just run android on steam deck and be done with it, you got way more of a selection of games on Amazon app and Google play, then steam os shady DmR requirements.

As a 16 gig android device steam deck has potential to improve the quality of game play for Android based games, as a PC 16gigs of shared ram is hardly enough to even play frogger for a hour with that battery drain.
By the way android os on steam deck would increase the battery life for usersl

Because Android “games” are mostly cheap crappy Apps, and Android doesn’t run PC games, which is the entire point of the deck?

And I have no clue why you think steam deck loses battery so fast due to Linux or how Android would magically fix it, not to mention the deck’s battery life is pretty solid all things considered.
