ELIMINATE "Jester" Award
The Jester Award is used way too often for toxicity; more than mere disapproval, jester award is used for disrespect and attempts of psychological abuse, not to express the post is funny since there is already the "Hilarious" award for this. What's more, users deliberately engineer topics to bait jester awards to severely increase the Steam points earned.
Therefore, I suggest you to just get rid entirely of Jester award. Increasing its cost will just aggravate the bating topics and simply replacing "jester" for "" will only mitigate the issue. Then, only awards with approving messages should be allowed to Steam users.

If I had my way: all forum "rewards" into the scrap heap. Maybe replaced by an actual "vote" system that many have been treating the "rewards" as.

Emphasis on "maybe" though. Might just leave that out so critics have to put in as much effort as the person they criticize.
Vote system will only support single point of view and would be even easier to abuse. With awards you at least have to pay something for an ability to try to trgigger someone. Because if a person you are awarding with "jester" is not a snowflake, they would just be happy of free points.
Then I would go no "rewards" and no "votes". Just posts. Make folks actually have to sit down and type to communicate.

Tell me more, because that appears to be exactly what you are doing.

No, "only awards with approving messages should be allowed to Steam users". Thats snowflake nonsense.

Why what's wrong with that? It gives Steam points just like any other award.
I was so thankful when my profile was showered with 'Jesters' that I bought myself showcases. :maddie:

"Psychological abuse"? It's a cute clown face and free points. While it's true that people do use them to try to get under someone's skin, they only succeed if their target plays along and chooses to take offense. The solution isn't to eliminate Jesters (another award would just take their place as the de facto "insult" award), it's to stop giving malicious people power over you.

So you claim to feel "provoked" to "jester award" me? That's the excuse bullies like to give: "You trolled me, of course I had to jester you".

I admit, this is a good silver lining and this also made me glad for a while. But pondering this issue more seriously, I realized the jester award is better gone.

I said no such thing. You also have no jesters in this thread. What I said is YOU are trolling for jesters with this nonsense.

My criticism is genuine and I admit no such victimism from you. I do noy want any jester awards here. Yet I am aware of the real possibility of giving me jester awards just to troll me.

The only other award to replace "jester" would be "hilariuos". Ok, remove "hilarious" too!
Sorry, I took the bait. I couldn't resist. I had to give a jester award to OP. :steamfacepalm: *sigh*

Nobody said you were provoking them into giving you Jesters.
Having said that, "I really really don't like getting Jesters, so I sure hope nobody gives them to me because I consider them psychological abuse" gives a LOT of power to people who would take pleasure from irritating you (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that getting Jesters isn't the purpose of this thread).

You dramatically underestimate how flexible trolls can be.
Jester - "A valued member of the King's Court" plus free points.

Secondly you cannot "know" the intent of the person giving the award instead you "assume" it is negative, malicious etc.

(INTENT: Something that is intended) - "No one is a mindreader to know the giver's intent".

In turn this leads to:

(ASSUME: To make a supposition; suppose or believe:) - As in, it fits your narrative to have it be negative malicious etc which goes back to "No one is a mindreader to know the giver's intent".

And finally you have to "prove" the intent of the giver but you cannot unless they actually state the reason why.

Stop lying. Its what you wanted.
I literally said to not give me any jester awards, and it is not my fault some people fall into the Streisand Effect.
We know it's used for trolling but who cares, it only shows how sad of an individual they are (most the time, as it does come in handy eventually on posts) and it gives you +1 to awards and Steam points so in the end it's a win/win for you (the receiver), plus I doubt Valve cares

To remove it, is not fair towards the people that earned those points.

I dislike the entire like/dislike and award system. I think it only gets in the way of the more important information, and I would hide it if I could. But people who like to rate things may be interested in it.
