I agree on the "need minimum ratings", although I know I'm in the minority.
As for the ratings made by users of a game, I can see the usefulness of it, but personally, do you really need to own the game to downvote a "this game is ***" ? I'd downvote such a short and unthroughful review, but that is just me. I'd agree on restrictions, though.
And of course, don't restrict anyone to flag a review.
It's a review that recommends a game even though it consists of nothing but 'I haven't played this game and thus can't review it.' That's not helpful, and deserves to be marked as such by anyone who reads it.
This makes more sense. Are people dismissing low vote 0% reviews that much, though?
Limiting it to only those who own the game would defeat the purpose of having this kind of review system. It could even allow the system to always be in favor of the developer, regardless of how many people decided not to buy it due to bad reviews.
If you're talking about that Realm of the Mad God review I made, that was one of the reviews I made before the review update. I was going to eventually play it and edit the review, but honestly never saw the chance (keep in mind that it was tagged as friends-only).
While I can easily understand people downvoting that, I just think it's unfair for someone to downvote all of the other reviews that I actually put effort into just because of some argument. While Totoro makes a very good point, I still think the last idea I mentioned in my OP would be very beneficial.
Completely irrelevant, but that Realm of the Mad God review was tagged as friends-only: how did you see it? Are all of my reviews showing up as public?
idk. i was curious as to whether it really showed '0/1found this helpful', and lo, there were 17 reviews on your profile. Checking now, the realm review has vanished. Spooky.
That was a bit of a bug that may still be effecting the Review Beta. May want to double check and see if you can mark it as friends only again.
In fact, perhaps removing the voting system altogether would be best. If readers so desperately want to express their opinion, let them leave comments instead! An eloquent review deserves at least a well-written response, rather than a one second effort that is clicking a like/dislike button.
Who needs thumbs up/down that are inaccurate at worst, and uninformative at best anyway?
I guess we can still give a try before effectiveley suggesting to take it down, even if I have no hope left for the review rating.
I believe its already required to have atleast played the game on Steam (not own), ie free weekend play for free whatvever. If you already own the game why are you trolling others reviews anyway? lol
Removing the Downvote system is a good idea. I had the same suggestion myself.
