Restrict what forums free accounts can post in and Give developers options to limit posters to non free accounts on their forums
Similar to how game dev's have the ability to designate their forums to only be for game owners,

  • If they implement this they MUST have a designated forum for free users, just like game owners have to be able to post in a forum
  • Make this option not allowable on F2P games

This will help developers keep the forums clean and limit the damage done by spammers using free accounts.

Similar functionality can be adopted for steam where the New to Steam forums and the Help and Tips forum for instance can be open to free accounts, but for other accounts it requires the user to have a paid account in order to post.

If they own the game that would treat them as being a paid account even if its from a 3rd party site and their steam account is still limited

EDIT - Per Tito Shivian apparently my idea is already in effect on the forums to all the naysayers, so it should be adopted for the Steam forums as well

User A - Free account doesn't own the game
User B - Free account owns the game from key site
User C - Paid account, doesn't own the game
User D - Paid account, owns the game

Under the existing option that would block User A and C from posting, when really only user A should be blocked.
A free account cannot post on a game forum unless they own the game (like gifted or bought from a key site).

Remember, as senior regulars of this board often say, the policy is not up for debate.
If you had actually read the thread you’d see no one is debating policy. A suggestion has been posed, and discussion of the possible benefits of said suggestion are being put forth. No one is debating what steams policy is, unlike other threads in which the line “policy is not up for debate” has been used.

It's always interesting to see who is threatened by a suggestion where they can't even post any negatives to it and try to attack the poster instead.
Devs can already limit game forums to game owners

Yes, if you read the thread this to take the same type of functionality and expand it to be able to limit forum access for free accounts. So only paid accounts can post.

By all means. It appears Steam's high quality search tool has failed another customer. People need to stop trusting it so much or expectong people to use it before posting if it cannot turn up such a simple phrase.

Strange habit people have around here to call facts they do not like to hear "misinformation." Just another word misused to the point of meaninglessness now it seems.

Yes the forum search didn't find that but how did you? Because its the same user 3 times. Are you sure it's a thing or just him?

I've seen others use similar wording to say things aren't up for debate , nothing inherently wrong with it as its just their opinion which holds no more weight then anyone else's opinion.

It may be just him as I am not exactly collecting links like these. He is a highly respected member of this board after all though. I had to go back to threads where I could recall personally seeing the phrase to dig this up. So I have no evidence or specific recollection beyond just him, so it could just be he says it a lot.

So one person is "senior regulars"?

Yeah, I would say that classifies as misinformation. Also borderline obsession as well.

I mean you say similar, and again, what is wrong with one user having an opinion? Everyone is allowed to have their opinion.

Just like when you said on anoither thread

Thats your opinion and its fine you have it, it doesn't make you right or wrong, or negate anyone else from discussing it even if you feel that its not up for debate.

EVERYONE should debate the idea, thats why its posted to public forums, i'll disagree if I feel your wrong, but everyone is free to have an opinion on this topic.

This idea for instance is pretty basic and its not really unusual as many businesses have separate sections for paying customers vs free users.

"Could you provide me evidence?" "The fact that you have evidence is proof you are obsessed!"

Another rerun. That said I have been told that phrasr several times. If it was that guy every time then fine. I will accept that over months I forget one guy is the only guy saying something and I did not count that it was one guy. I do not pay attention to names on a forum.

You claimed it was multiple people. Is that not was regulars means?

You are also completely ignoring this conveniently;

I am not conveniently ignoring it. I am correctly ignoring it. A series of unrelated out of context quotes of every time I have ever said debate completely irrelevant to any context of this conversation and saying that any statement one might have about a debate is mere opinion is not something that I need to respond to at all. Not every post needs a fruitless argument. This thread has had quite enough of a derail. I intend to do quite the opposite of ignoring that post next time someone tells me that something is not up for debate now that I know the official board position on whether things may be up for debate. And I hope to see you do the same now that the behavior has been brought to your attention and you have deemed it inappropriate.
