Your forums are filled with trolls and grifters using emotionally charged words to provoke negative communication loops. Maybe you should go after those who post "Your favorite game sucks, has low sales numbers, YIKES" threads instead of people like me who log onto Steam to find joy and are fed up with walking away irritated.

There isn't an option to completely disable discussion boards, if a user is blocked, their posts still show up as "a topic by a blocked user" with hundreds of replies. So it's not easy to not engage with toxic behavior like that. People naturally want to right the wrongs.

I know you're probably underpaid for moderating thousands of games' discussion forums, but I think the problem persists and will only make your job harder since organized efforts to defame a game and offend communities have been normalized by groups like DEI Detected, etc.

Your platform needs an overhaul and let users downvote posts that are blatantly negative and provokative (maybe hidden if past a certain threshold). This way the community promotes quality content instead of rage-baits and hatred.

There are a lot of folks who would be really surprised how unpopular they actually are should an upvote and downvote system be implemented. And once you find that out, you cannot put it back in the box.

Forums aren't a popularity content, Often facts are indeed unpopular and people would rather believe a comfortable lie such as that mass reporting is why they get banned instead of accepting the less popular truth in they got banned becaus ethey broke the rules.

if people need to feel popular then that is a personal failing in their self esteem and something they should talk about with a licensed therapist.

The simple facts are an upvote/downvote system as shown by history is abused by trolls who downvote anyone they don't like, even when that person is giving out the correct info. Its not a hypothetical, its literally what happened in the old forums.
Precisely. I say nothing but the truth, so I understand probably more than anyone here what it is like to say uncomfortable facts. But there are a lot of people for whom the illusion of popular consensus is core to their world view. And while I would not deny it has been used in less than helpful manners, there are also quite a few people who couch their sudden revealed unpopularity with excuses like "trolls."

Either way the system likely has few upsides.
has OP learned his lesson about being toxic on other forums?
OP seems to just have discovered humanity, I guess.

First day on the Internet? Welcome! Here's your complimentary gift basket.
I think people would just make new accounts to bypass any negative outcome being downvoted would cause. They already do that to evade bans.
The word "Toxic" got no meaning when it is used against anything you say that the other part of the community dont like !

We need free speech on steam, no matter if the community like what you say or not !

Stop abuse the word "Toxic" because anything can litterly be taken as toxic, if the reciver of what you say disagree or dislike what you are saying !

Remove the trustfactor system from " speech & chat/forums" because it is abused to keep normal players down in red trustfactor !

Apply the trustfactor system / censorship on players that cheat, not on normal players that is unhappy or got something negative to say about cheaters !

It is pretty normal for a human to be negative against things that they dislike and it come´s out in words first and if provoked enough e.g. on the streets then that individual will fight for it if he/she gets angry enough ..

So how about just apply trustfactor system on cheaters, instead of abuse it toward normal players and community members that disagree with something or come up with new idea´s ?

This is totally out of control as it is right now, people getting banned left & right for basicly nothing other than they disagree or dont like something or have said something they really mean !

You cannot change people´s mind, if some one think another person is a ***** for cheating in the games, then you cannot change his/her´s point of view on that with a ban .. :steamlaughcry:

So Steam support really need to think twice before it backfires on Valve and everyone quit using Steam and jump to other platforms with free speech !

Sometimes you just need to let people discuss and fight, just like " brothers " -> the waves will go high curses and slurs will be said, the glasss might shatter, sometimes it even ends up with a blue eye, but they will be friends after that and there will be no agueing or fighting for a looooooong time ... get it ?

I can’t help but marvel at my own virtues. The kindness, the warmth, the humility, and the unflinching conformity that flows so naturally within me ...
