Make friend list private
I would like to make my friend list private, as I very much value my privacy. While I am myself careful with the information I share, my friends are much more careless. I could easily be found on Facebook by going through them. Some use the same username here and on Facebook.

If you set the profile to Friends only then only your friends can see you
but do not expect that people not can get the informatin they want = private profile do only help against nubs

Those aren't solutions. I don't want to have to set my whole profile to friends only or private and I want to be able to add friends without them seeing my other friends. We shouldn't have to make such a compromise on privacy when adding people to our friend list.

What about if half of that friend list is vac banned or some are scammers/phishers on your friend list then other people would love to be able to see this before they add you & visa versa

edit: your suggestion only protect the wrong people

What about if your argument is completely irrelevant.

Yeah sure. Because people who care about their privacy are clearly the wrong people.

Best argument 2014.

I'd like my friends list private too. No so much for my privacy as for theirs as well as their protection. It is the only reason I won't open up my profile and allow comments.

Like the idea.. wish it was possible

I agree lets start a petition to take back our privacy.

I would also like an option to have my list set to private. In addition I would like to set options for individual users on my list for who can see features on my profile such as inventory, friends, etc.
Ba[R]aD` 23 listopada 2014 o 16:11
good idea

Still 100% against this and none of the reasons used in this topic are good enough for me, since this topic is about hiding the friend list for (some) of your steam friends and not for users there not are on your friend list = are you trying to create a little secret society ???

your goal is to protect your friends against other friends (this was what the Mod said) ^^

edit: unless he misunderstood something then this what what he was saying

I think the point somebody brought up about VAC was a good one. Sometimes it's nice to be able to look at somebody's friends list - if half the list is trade or VAC banned, it can be a warning sign. However, I don't know that it's enough of a reason to offset privacy concerns. I would tend to agree that more privacy options on profiles would be a good thing.

Can we know how it impacts YOU if you add someone who has a friend list half-filled with VAC banned users?

"are you trying to create a little secret society ???"
Rofl... really?
I mean, really?
Yeah sure. That's exactly what we're trying to do, Rofl. Whatever man.

Bizarre that people could be "100% against" privacy options. If someone's not interested in setting their friends list to private, they'd be free to not do so. There's no harm to anyone; I'm definitely in favour of more privacy options of all kinds.

Presumably this is a warning about trading, yes? So let's say they have their list private so you can't tell. If you find that offputting, like you can't trust them, then...don't trade with them? They've chosen to make their list private. If that choice means some people who want lots of information before trading won't trade, well, that's just part of the package in making that choice. That's okay.

Yes this should be done. Privacy is everyone's right.

Keyword: for ME :rfacepalm: *sigh*

On topic: I support this and every other privacy and profile customization suggestion I come across. I can't help but wonder though, why is privacy not on Valve's priority list considering that Steam is very social media heavy?

That said, privacy is not about protecting "the wrong people" or "if you have nothing to hide then you shouldn't worry because it's only your gaming profile lolz" nonsense -- it's about having OPTIONS to decide what you show not only to other users but the entire internet (including all those 3rd party data mining sites/profile & inventory scanning programs and so on)
