A hotkey to toggle the fps counter
Sometimes I just want to turn the FPS counter off easily without going into the settings. A hotkey would be great. Fraps has it, so why not Steam?

Reddit link, if someone cares.

Please add the option to use a hotkey or key combination to toggle the FPS counter.

It's ridiculously cumbersome to enable or disable the FPS counter right now, which makes it borderline useless to me.

I don't want to play with it constantly visible, I just want a quick way to check if I suspect a game is dropping below 60fps in certain sections so I can tweak the graphics settings if need be.

Valve need more competition in the form of gog.com and similar services. It's ridiculous.
I suggested this one year ago and it's still not a thing.

Oh god YES.

You know.. most games have this built into them right? You don't need to use the overlay fps counter. since it is by very nature not as accurate.

I have over 100 games and I'd say maybe 4 of them have a build in fps counter.

If you have an NVIDIA GPU you can use Shadowplay to draw the fps - which can be toggled; not sure if AMD has a similar option.

Actually most games do. You just don't see it in the options menu, most have one in their ini/cfg files though.

Even if the statement that most games do have it is true it's still awfully cumbersome having to go into each game's ini file and enable fps drawing... Even then would the game's config file even allow for this to be toggled or would it be static.... It would simply be easier for Valve to add a toggle themselves.

Exactly, having to go through a bunch of ini files is even worse, and I don't like the idea of having additional background applications running just to do the same thing that Steam already does. It's already there, we just need a better way to access it, and it's such an obvious feature as well.

What if every time you wanted to take a screenshot you had to go to that same menu and press a "Take screenshot" button? It would make the feature totally useless because you'd never bother to actually take any screenshots.

OH ok. I was just confused because he was complaining about the lack of a feature and cited GOG, a service that does not have the feature (to my knowledge) as the kind of competition Steam needs more of.

GOG offers competition in other regards. Such as returning games, fair prices and no DRM. So far there is no FPS counter, but at least they listen to community suggestions and offer a platform to give them. Unlike Valve, who sometimes listen to suggestions people offer on reddit, but that's not guaranteed, as we see here. Even with a decent amount of upvoates.

How does being higher than steam's price equal a fair price?
As for suggestions. Have you been around the forum. FOr anything any user suggests there are 5 opposing suggestions.

Seriously, anything steam does will please some users and displease some users. As is you can't tell if they're listening because really.. they're caught. GoG has a much, much smaller user base and a more focused userbase.

Can you explain on why you think it's innacurate?
More options sounds great. I don't use the steam fps counter but I can see where a hotkey would eliminate some hassle. Good luck. :)
