SteamOS based on Debian Jessie with custom Kernel 3.17 please!
Please.... Debian 7.0 is too old.. why not use Debian 8.0 (Jessie)? It's going to be released on April... is very stable now

And use a kernel 3.17 (or newer) to have XBOX One gamepad drivers

I think you may have answered your own question there. Just logistically, if you're forking from something it makes sense to fork from something that's stable and released. Otherwise you don't just have your own issues to deal with, but other people's issues too. There's no benefit to be had from rushing things.

I'm sure they'll merge in Debian 8.0's changes when it's released.
