This already contains the first part.
Valve doesn't release sales figures. Such information is confidential and requires developer/publisher permission.
Forums post won't tell you much. If you want to see how active the forums is, just take a look. If the post on the first page are from a few days ago, then it probably isn't very active.
That would be up the the developer to release/post such information. I think this may help though: http://steamdb.info
Same as the first, but there are other sites that keep track of it as well as the prices on other sites. Examples: SteamPrices[www.steamprices.com], http://isthereanydeal.com/.
Don't know what that would matter either. A gift is still a purchase and still someone playing.

Hope this helped!
Forum posts will give me an insight on how many people are playing the game or are interested in it. If you don't know what you're talking about please refrain from posting.
As for the second part of the paragraph I must refer to the first of my answers, I want the information on the store page. As with any advertising, which is all steam basically does, you have a very small window of opportunity to win a potential buyer over; forcing me to research information which could easily be presented to me decreases the sales potential for that title.
Not even a feasible suggestion. Honestly, are you just trolling my thread?
So steam shouldn't give me the information because another website has already done it, and compares it with the competitors of steam making me aware of who they are, potentially causing steam to lose my business altogether?
I hope you don't work for steam.
At this point I'm suprised they let you talk to people. A gift purchase tells me a LOT. It tells me that there was a player who played the game, liked the game, and liked it so much they paid to share it with a friend. That's better than a green thumbed review every day of the week.
Marketting is not your strong point and you should stay away from threads like these./quote]
Same to you.
