Info on number of users in multiplayer and co-op games, both online and local.
How do we make this happen?

I've been purchasing a lot of games lately, solely for the purpose of co-op on the couch with controllers. Even after reading the description, some have been nigh on impossible to determine the number of players available in-game.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I'm talking about how many players the game supports in one session, NOT the number of people/computers actually running the game at any one time. That is to say, I don't care if 9 million people are playing the game when it's local co-op only supports 2 players and I have 4 people over at my house, wanting to play.

The thing that has sparked this is Hero Siege. I couldn't find anything on the store page that mentioned the number of players for local co-op, but could only assume it supported 4 players given the offer of the 4-pack deal. The game only supports 2 players.

Up to the developer, but I do think it would be a nice addition. For now you'll just have to rely on reading about it from the game's hubs.

Edit: Rewrote the post because I realized I'm an idiot.

Use Google.

The community hubs for each game tell you the number of players online (or you can use 'Enhanced Steam' plugin for a browser to see them on the store page).

However, this is only the STEAM players online. If a game is exclusive to Steam, that's great, you know exactly how many TF2/Left4Dead or Dota2 players there are playing. If not, you don't know if Steam is 30% of the userbase or 80%.

You'd need steam to query the master servers for each game and pull back the values into the client on a regular basis, doable as long as you can get all the addresses, but probably quite annoying to keep up to date. Any games that use P2P you have very little chance.

I'm talking about how many people can play the game together, not how many people have the game running worldwide.

Co-Optimus is a good site to find out, how many people can play a game and if the game itself good coop-couch features. Used it for years, until I started to play only online.

The number of players can actually cause a vicious circle where:
-People don't buy the game because there's little number of players.
And
-The number of players doesn't grow because people don't buy the game.

The number of players in a local co-op match can grow because more people buy the game?
Please have a look at the image I originally linked to.
I'm not asking for number of players playing the game worldwide, I'm looking for info on the game's multiplayer capabilities. Why would I care if 3 million people are playing the game in local co-op mode across the world? That information doesn't help me figure out if purchasing a game will let me play with more than one of my friends on my couch with controllers.

I do agree that will be really great if they add it, will help to find the right type of CO-Op when searching
