i agree to the vpn idea but i think you should be able to choose who to connect to "your" vpn and who not so that this is an addition to the friend List for example:
i want to add Friend 1,3,5,6 but i dont want 2,4 to be able to connect to my computer.
if u do this via communtity there are a lot of security questions to fix because a community can have so many members and maybe u dont know some of them and do u want people you dont know sniffing around your computer / Files?
as i said above this is a great idea but in my opinion its something to add to the Friends system and not to communitys
Sorrry for my bad english i hope u can understand that
Regards Nawi
I think they should use the way hamachi is doing it. With passwords. And make your own rooms, with only your friends. And as a admin you can remove random dudes who went in your vpn server. Or you could use a invite methode. So that only you can decide who's in the server.
GameRanger has been supporting a lot of GameSpy Titles (and other games who's service has been shutdown) since 1999.
http://www.gameranger.com/
It also gives many more things and have an active Dev Staff on there
Anybody can create a community, and I believe you can have private communitites, or communities that require membership.
I don't use game ranger, I use steam.
That's the whole point of tying it to communities. You can already have public, managed, and private communities.
And it's awesome for games that implement it. Battlefront 2 does not implement it.
Then enjoy playing those old games that will loose multiplayer functionality when the GameSpy servers close, because only a very few of them will ever get an update to a new system let alone Steam.
This is the Suggestions / Ideas discussion forum right? Are you a valve employee?
Yes but there is a difference between an idea that is well thought out and one that is just wish full thinking.
