Tags are now generic and useless

Keep in mind that the tags are supposed to be descriptive and objective, not opinon-based.

Also keep in mind that the tagging system is still very much in it's infancy- over time, it will grow as more users tag games, and 'review' tags.

sorry but "Rome was not patched in a day" is a joke and not a real tag... A walking simulator may be but i think it was a little abused on too many games,,,

More then that a tag for on game is not usefull...
And many games have usefull tags if you look only at 1 2 games and call it all uselss i think you doing it worng

By using your example of Total War: Rome II: I don't usually play strategy games, not my thing. But say I played that, and enjoyed it, but had no idea of similar types of games. I choose 'Turn Based RPG', and it brings me up a list of other games (most of which I've never heard of, nor seen on the store). That seems pretty useful to me.

1. The Total Rome one was a useless tag, as it was for 1 game only.. if maybe to use it for more it will have been more useful..

2. there are many tags that we did not have before calling tags not useful as they remove some one that was really just a joke dose not render it useless

3. The Stanly Parables has Walking simulator in its list of tags... they did not remove it

4. I fail to see how you call the tags useless with the reasons you give

I complained on the other forums of no longer being able to tag The Binding of Isaac as a "roguelikelike": a term I find perfectly appropriate (it's not what I'd call a roguelike, exactly, but it's like one in some aspects). I really can't see what the problem with it would be that warrants it being banned.

Whereas I think "walking simulator" is a stupid, misguided, somewhat insulting tag, but it's still there. And it probably should still be there: I think not allowing people to apply their own tags, even if I wouldn't personally use those terms, somewhat goes against the point of such a system. Still, given what I said above, the discrepancy feels like an ugly inconsistency. I guess it's not inconsistent exactly, but it is nonetheless ugly: a tendency to use the will of the majority to censor other ideas, even harmless ideas.

System's still a "beta" of course, but hey, that's when feedback is most important.

TAGs where meant to be helpful and not for jokes. That's what they are now and that is better than it was before.

I find tags very usefull, since now I can search games by setting, like Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, or Post-Apocalyptic. Tags were never meant to be a mini-critique, its to help sort and categorize..

Im glad they added the 'Report' feature, since I'm sick and tired of finding "Barbie Dreamhouse Party" when searching for Horror and Post-Apocalyptic games. That's kind of non-sense isn't funny or helpful to anyone.

The problem here is the report feature is only enforced on negative tags, so false positive tags are allowed to remain. Overrated was removed, but underrated was allowed to stay; so opinion are allowed/intended.

Well i think the problem with that you say here is
OverReated most of the time is a game that got a big name and someone think its not that good so its Overreated

What dose underrated mean? it can mean its a game that is almost not known that needs to be know...
And that is a big defrents... like i can tell you every Big AAA games will get Overreated... over reated or not its a AAA game every one heard abut it... so its Overreated.. so really in the end it will not help you much

Underrated most of the time will be unknown games... that the tags can help you find

um No. If I look for a open world game I can search for that tag now. If I want a game with Dragons I can search for that. If I want third person shooter games I can search for that tag as well.

Steam by default only have 10 normal tags and then 2 others. Free to play and Early Access.
Now we got far more to search with.

If you want to write a tag with "Game is broken" it isn't helping people to search for a game. As they do not search for broken games. If they want to find out the condition of the game they go to the Steam community forum and ask there.

But the tags as they are now are better than they where on the first few days when people had their fun with it.

The term "troll" can now mean anything, mostly often meaning "something I dont agree with". The system is now useless because the tags have been censored down to the already existing Steam categories.

Again the tags are a NEUTRAL categorization system. all your supposed 'unique' tags are exactly the kind of tripe said system doesn't need.

Most people do not search by the tags, they use them to gain insight into the game when they are on the storepage. I dont think you understand the function of tagging to most people.

Well i think that is a problem... you have reviews for that... tags are to find games review is to tell you if its worth to get or not....
