Disabling/Toggling steam overlay in certain games

It would be wonderful if i could disable the steam overlay in certain games, or add a hotkey to toggle it. Minecraft is a good example. When you add Minecraft manually, the steam overlay bugs-out in the launcher, but not in-game. I would love to see a feature like this implemented into steam one day, it would be so helpful!

So you mean for non-steam games?
As for Steam games you can do it all ready if you Right click the game, then proprieties, and unchake the Steam Over lay box

yeah, for non-steam games i cannot disable/enable overlay. a good feature i would like is a timer/hotkey for the overlay. so after a minute it will enable it, instead of it activating right away
