Sharing a game link to a friend on steam friends list or chat
I'm very surprised this is not implemented yet, given that Steam is all about games, friends and community! While the Steam store pages make it easy to share a game (link to the game, not the actual game) via Facebook, Twitter or Reddit, there is no easy way to share it with a friend on my Steam Friends List. There is not even a "Share Link" direct URL to copy in the Share dialog that pops up when I click the Share button on the Store page of a game!

The hard way that I have to resort to is, first of all I have to enable the address bar in the Store section of the Steam client as it's disabled by default. Then I have to select the URL from the address bar, copy it and then paste it in the chat window. This sends a long URL that has no description of the game whatsoever, and probably launches in the default browser when clicked.

What I'd love to see instead is, I click Share, then choose to share with an online friend in my friends list. Then in the chat, a small but beautifully decorated box appears with the icon or montage, and name of the game, maybe the price (including strikeout and offer price) and a button to launch the Store page in Steam client. That would be very neat and tidy, and not to mention a cool way to share a game with your friend in chat and then talk about it... maybe convince them to buy it!

Some mockups here.[i.imgur.com]

Note that this is not the same as gifting a game.

Really agree on these (and it will open in the Steam client as its a Steam link) will be really cool if they do it

+1 for this. It would be much easier to share a link, than type the name then hope your friend will search for it themselves. Not to mention, the speed at which Steam loads pages these days, this would be a one-hit for Steam's servers... so it would reduce server load and peoples' patience.

Rather starting new post I will add my voice here.

I agree of what been suggested and I request for this feature; it is so simple (I assume)

I concur. I just attempted to do the same thing and found that I had to use work-arounds to achieve it. A very silly missed opportunity for valve here.

Going on another year and something this simple still not implemented. Crazy.

this been added in one of the recent updates; i don't remember when but it wasn't there. (so many thanks to them.)

The point that they made the share feature available for some of the social media outlets, so why it is not available here.

As the title says; it is just a suggestion and something we wish to have.

+1 seriously, exact same as original poster, and they even made beautiful retail ready mockups for you. 4 years ago. figure it out.

As with every other suggestion to implement graphics into the contact chats, this suggestion is hindered by the design in the first place. The shop banner, that gets used in the forum (and appears to have been the idea, when the thread opener started this suggestion), is bigger than the default chat window in heigth and width. You would either have to reduce the amount of information or risk to turn a normal conversation into side-scrolling.
Also I don't think, that forwarding an information should be a one-click-solution anyhow. Something as simple as having to type the name of the game and a few words, why the friend might be interested in it, makes one think, if it is worth the recommendation.

ADTC Love the mockups lmao!! SERIOUSLY though, I can share on reddit and twitter the steam game I am looking at but not another steam friend, wtf?!? I don't want to have to view source code to share a link w/ my friend

Agreed.. such a simple thing that should just be there as table stakes
