Terrible Australian Prices on Digital Products
I wanted to provide feedback in general for the prices on the steam store for Australian customers. We are being charged in USD, meaning I paid $110 AUD for Fallout 4 when I preordered it.

Only after release did I realise I could have bought it at retail for $59 AUD. That is almost half price.

I will no longer be buying any games from steam while USD prices are applied for Australian customers. New Zealand customers get charged in NZD, and they are a smaller country than Australia.

I use steam for its convenience and believed that the lack of shipping costs would mean prices are cheaper than retail stores. That is not the case I have found out.

Therefore, I will no longer be purchasing games for steam until the policy changes to charge Australian customers in our own currency.

SO you failed to make yourself awere of the options.. News flash. you ever think the reason the publishers keep the steam price jacked up is because it makes the already jacked up retail prices seem cheaper by comparisson?

Satoriu... if you had a nickel for every time you've had to say that.. you'd probably be rich enough to pay Gabe to wipe your ass.

he's not wrong though, it's totally up to the publisher to set the price in respective regions

You are not alone bro, Fallout 5 in brazil is R$229. Regular practice for AAA releases in brazil for retail and digital copies usued to be R$99, some steam games adjusted due to increase value of USD compared to BRL, and now companies like Ubisoft and EA are selling AAA releases for R$129.

But bethesda ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up here... R$229 is ridiculous, that is 1/3 of brazilian minimum wage.

But indeed, developers set the price, not Steam... they have no saying on what a game is priced on steam, i got a friend who is a steamworks developer and he has 2 games released on steam.

It's not so much the prices, but the fact we are being charged in $USD. EA's digital store charges in Australian dollars, and Steam charges New Zealand users in New Zealand dollars. Happy to pay the publisher's price they set but it should be set in Australian dollars.

Just voicing my feedback that it is almost 50% cheaper for AAA games in Australian retail stores compared to Steam. And for that reason, I will be purchasing games from retail stores for that reason alone.

Some have speculated that the delay in implementing AUD is due to the pressure the Aussie government has been putting on Steam. While they are currently in talks, if they reach an impasse it is easier for steam to continue operating if they are not using AUD.

Given what's happened to the other regions that have had their local currencies implemented.. you should probably be glad. The prices are apt to get even higher.

The thing is, from what I know, people in the US actually pay less USD than we do.

And? Someone is always going to pay less than you do for something. That shouldn't be an issue. TAll you need to decide is is it worth th amount of your money being asked

But if we both use USD we should have to pay the same amount. Especially since USD is worth about 1.5x as much as AUD right now.

Look. does every gas station in your city charge the same amount for gas? If it's like most other cities. No, some will have thj price a few cents higher and others will have it a few cents lower maybe a few dollars.

You pay more for stuff in australia because of the decades the game industry has learned that you will pay more for such things. The only way to fix that is to well, stop buying games altogether and force a price correction.

No, they are all in the same country. And the prices are based on availability.
This is a digital store. Infinite amounts of games are available.

Availability is a factor , cost of delvery is another and the price being charged by th geograpghically nearest competitor. Point is, no matter what, someone is always going to be paying less for something than you somewhere in the world. And Someone is likely also paying more than you somewhere in the world so yeah, it balances out. If you don't thinl the game is worth the price being aske, don't buy it for the price, if you can get it cheaper get it cheaper but note this. With the currency usually comes a more tightly defined region so you may find activating and purchasing cros border a little harder.

Stop worrying about other people anbd what they may or may not be paying. Living life like that just doesn't get you anything but ulcers.
