change the display names of my friends.
This has been requested from as early as 2009 (6-years ago!).

can we have the ability to change the way we see our friends names.

In other terms;
open friends list>click on arrow next to friends name>change display name.

this WILL make it much easier to distinguish friends when they change their names DAILY! and I'm trying to play an intense game and shout commands to friends but cant figure out who they are (some of their names are very long and even forget their OWN names).

heck;
I'll be willing to throw in a couple hundred dollars to the developer team to fund this (if necessary).

There already is (kinda) you can add a nickname to your friends. Right click in friendlist -> Add Nickname.

yes, but we needed something that changes their whole name, so that it would even change when in games (like COD for eg).

That's not gonna happen. It could lead to spoofing. Most suchgames already have the ability for players to change their ingame screen names.

I'll just point if these is to happen each game will need to add support to it
As the names you see in-game sent from the server so that needs to tell Steam that you and your friend are on the same game and find the alter ego name for you

So these will work only if the game support it even if it's added
