Any suggestions for developers to mitigate controversies in forums?

I just think the question is framed wrong from the beginning. The "controversies" aren't stemming from any action on Valve's part nor the studios' part. They're the result of culture war nonsense, which can only be mitigated by the ones engaging in it.

The developers will never stop allowing fascist rhetoric because that is what steam is.
Why would they even want to handle controversy they themselves breed by allowing racists to piss their ignorant pro hate culture all over every forum on the site.

If you wanted real people to handle things honestly you would have to flush the fascist agenda from steam employment.

You are talking about an entire culture of Nazism.
Also every criminal bullying, and racist mod is protected by separate hiring practices.
So there's prob nothing that can be done.

Judging by the amount of murderous homophobes ranting on these general forums about how their death threats got them permanently banned from many games forums, game forum moderators are doing exactly what they should do, and what the Steam Moderators should be doing, supported instead of undermined by Steam Support.

These developers are not being forced to implement this stuff the consultants propose. (There's argument that they're being extorted at threat of public smearing by games journalists, but honestly who cares about games journalists anymore?) If they implement something people don't like, they'll receive feedback in the form of poor sales. That's really all there is to it.

If they make good games people want to play, people will reward developers by buying the games.

If they make bad games people don't want, people will punish developers by not buying the games.

It's really as simple as that. All the culture war nonsense is just background noise.

If you have a culture war and only one side shows up, then it's a rout. This is also not caused by the market, and will not be solved by the market. Companies are not making decisions like this because they are pursuing profit in the traditional market sense. The changes are being made because they are important to people, and ignoring them means they will simply keep sneaking more in.

Specifically they're important to people who buy the products. That's how the free market works.

If there was genuinely a problem with woke stuff in video games, we'd see a companies (especially indies) moving to exploit that.

The only suggestion to stop it would have been years ago to stop trying to advance the "EVERYTHING is political" idea to remove the actual definition of politics but some people just cannot ever agree to disagree and now they're constantly claiming everything they disagree with or don't understand is "disingenuous" or other similar nonsense.

One side wanted to be polite and not tackle disagreeable issues but the other disagreed and won the argument so now everyone hates each other.

Might want to take a look in the mirror there, you keep accusing everyone of being what you are yourself. You are pretending to be judge jury and executioner in accusing people you dont know of being all theses phobics or -ists without knowing what it truly is and you are the only one getting banned from all these communities because you are the problem. Its not a pro hate culture on here, it is an anti-hate culture on here and you are getting punished for pushing hate yourself by hating on everyone you dont agree with.
