Let users delete or refund steam point shop purchases
I've been thinking about how many steam point shop purchases that don't look good or that I just simply don't want anymore, but now these clog up my steam inventory and I have no way to remove them. Since we have a system for profile accessories that we get from making badges which let you sell those accessories on the market or even turn them into gems, it made me wonder why we don't have a similar system in place for those that we buy through the point shop, and I think that a similar system that's tweaked in some ways could be beneficial to help reduce inventory clog.

One way to process a refund could be to remove the accessory from your inventory and then have the value the item was worth in steam points put back into your account, and just have you re-buy whatever you refunded for the same amount whenever you want to buy the accessory again. The other way these could work is by having the option to outright delete the accessory in question, which could be a good alternative if you don't particularly care for spending or losing steam points.

I'm sure that my proposed system would need some fine tuning before implementation, but I figure that my post could hopefully be a good start for a future system, or at least a change to the one we have at the moment.

Or just make everything free like it is on almost every other 'app'.

A badly needed feature for quite a while, but given Valve Time it'll probably be another decade before we have it.

They can't implement trash cans yet because people are likely to want them back, even though they've been warned that it is perma. I found that freebie stickers clogged my inventory the most (esp when most of them were ugly af). :mspoo:

Altho I kinda like the idea of changing the items back to their points form.

Refund is going to be a hard sell, because people will get stuff use it and refund it when they're bored of it.
However some sort of 'recycle bin' for items would be a better solution. Steam is sorely lacking in the inventory management department.

as a game developer, I'd appreciate the ability for users to hide or reorder items on their Steam Inventory page, because implementing that kind of thing within the confines of the Steam Inventory Service API would require a lot of extra complexity like deleting and re-creating items.

Being able to refund Points Shop items within a short time period would be good for accidental purchases. Especially if you use the steam mobile app

we can try refunds but return half points so its not abused, like recycling.

Something along the lines of an inventory crate would be better. Allowing a delete would open the door to users making mistakes and reaching out to support to restore things. Better to make a crate to move unwanted items into that they could retrieve at a later time.

Yeah I was thinking more like you can make folders in steam inventory that hide the items from view but leave the rest unprivated. Folder is only visible to you and they can only be made for Steam items in inventory not other games, mostly out of worry it might mess with some games item servers.
If you ever had a 3ds, think like its folders systems.
If you delete the folder it all moves back into the main inventory so nothings gone just boxed away essentially. This should also remove said items from the steam chat tabs if theyre in a folder if you want it to.
