Increase or Remove the Friend Limit
There are a ton of people who have already maxxed out their friend's list and have many more they want to add. Please it's a simple as changing a int to a double-int. And the limit would go up to 65535.

You can already increase your friends list limit by leveling up.

And honeestly. How many friends to you need bRah. The majority of steam users don't even know there is a limit because they've never hit it.

Yeah, but the majority of users would like to be friends with the minority of people who do hit it.

You have 31 friends. Why does this concern you?

Valve monetiized friends. As I remember a semi controversial move noted by some gaming media.

I think there was a limit before they put it in, but now Users can beyond that limit by leveling up

Friends going on and offline, starting a game, viewing someone's profile page, and a couple of other things are all operations with an exponential component, done on Valve's servers that would get hit with the extra load if the friend limit was essentially unlimited. So yes, the change itself may be simple, but handling the consequences isn't. It's why Valve sought the middle ground by allowing people to raise the limit through leveling up.

He wants to be friends with someone whose list is full?

I do remember a level cap. Users can leveling up by spending money. Either by buying cards on the market or buy using their cards and forgoing the income they would generate.

Just level up to increase it.

I think 2,000 friends is the maximum amount you can have.

There always was a level cap.
Tying the friend limit to Steam level also hampers the ability to use accounts for abuse.

And if you need to manage such a big amount of people that your friend list becomes small, that's what Steam groups were made for.

That's an excellent point about Steam groups. In fact many of my friends use them for such a purpose.

No. It isn't.

Every person on everyone's list has to be constantly updated to show their current status. If eveyone had 65535 friends, the amount of connections to and from users to update everyones status would rise significantly.

But even without that, no-one NEEDS that many friends, no-one knows that many people! You can on average keep track of around 200 friends, after that it's just baggage, not actual friends.

Yea but you can't level up at all until you have bought something off steam. Even if you buy 100s of steam games outside of steam your friend limit is locked to 0 until you send some money directly to valve.
That was put on later
After we had levels you were also able to get out of limited account with any game CD-Key, or gifts and the like
But then scammers abuse that as well using bundles, or giveaways to unlock accounts, there for it was add to have to close it using funds, from a payment, so its cash, so its much harder to get fake once, or get it for free

If you been here, you may have seen it slowly rise, part by part, by how the attacks grow
