Forum rules and political speech
If political speech is banned on most forums, how is the term "SJW" (social justice warrior) allowed?
I see "SJW" most often as a derogatory insult directed at people who espouse values like diversity, LGBTQ inclusion, gender equality, and race equality.

Given that "SJW," by definition, mocks and repudiates the entire concept of social justice, how is that not considered political, at the very least? It seems like something that should warrant an automatic filter, like the mere mention of that notorious image board.

Even if one disagrees with the concept of social justice, how can one argue that the term "SJW" isn't inherently political?

I recently got a warning and post deletion for a short, and (I thought) innocuous joke about Donald Trump.

And yet, on that same forum, trainwrecks like this thread are left up: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1158310/discussions/0/1608274347727148948/#c1608274347727173277.

Do better Steam.

If you searched the entire steam forum youll find millions of examples and never get anything done.

Best to report and move on.

Is turning SJW into 3 hearts actually going to solve a problem?

If you find posts that break the rules then feel free to report them. The post you referenced has not been reported.

So is this about SJW, political speech or you just simply feeling the need to inform the community about a warning and post deletion regarding yourself?

The latter obviously but why do we need to be informed?

No but it's a start. Red lights don't stop all traffic accidents. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have them.

All the above. The latter was used solely to point out hypocrisy.

I disagree and think Steam could be more proactive.

So you define it as hypocrisy because it was your post which was removed and a warning given but perfectly understandable when it is someone else's post which you disagree with or which you may have reported.

The deletion and warning would make more sense if the rules were consistently enforced, yes.

I just noticed you're a moderator. You come across as kind of indifferent.

I really doubt someone would call you that in a random discussion that is not political already.
You admitted yourself you made a political joke. Someone reported you and rules were enforced.
Report what you think is political AND toxic not just what is political and you personally don't like.

That's not how the rules are supposed to work. I suggest you read them here. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4045-USHJ-3810

It says "Do not post any content on Steam containing the following:"

In that list, "Religious, political, and other “prone to huge arguments” threads"

That should include SJW rants.

Rules and Guidelines do not need to, nor conform to a criteria you set.

You seem to believe that joke about Trump was innocuous so it was okay to post it and now want to fight the good fight on behalf of who?

Someone took offence at your post and reported it. Were they wrong to? No.

If a post offends you can report it.

And yet you do not put your Trump joke in the political arena, but actually broke a rule you decided to quote.

More importantly your thread is politically motivated or do you not deem it that way.

If you read that you may find:
Should you observe a fellow Community member breaking these rules please report the post or item by clicking the Report () button located on every item, post, and review.
And
Please note that Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to change/edit/delete/move/merge any content at any time if they feel it is inappropriate, abusive, or incorrectly categorized.

If you see something that breaks the rules report it, if the mod then thinks it breaks the rules they will deal with it, but don't expect mods to be everywhere at all times, as in the end there human
If you see something you think breaks the rules report it, and it may be taken care of
If you don't report it, it may not be found and therefor not enforced not because they don't want to, or not trying but because you did not do your part there
I want to fight "the good fight on behalf of who?" What are you even talking about? Are you trying to call me an SJW without actually saying it? Lol.

And friends, repeating ad nauseam that I can report posts I find is not going to change my mind that corporations can do a better job at policing the content they curate.

If you want to ban certain words right now your best hope is the new profanity filter.
Go to friends chat settings.
Select "change chat filtering preferences" in the "Chat" section. You can add words you want hidden to the filter. These words will also be hidden in the community (that includes forum posts).

It's a new Steam Lab feature released just a few days ago.

P.s. by "ban" I mean only you won't see the words anymore.

Report is the weapon of choice nowadays.
Also, your question was answered by a ex mod and an mod first, just wanted to point that out.
Report is the best ways. Mods and ex mods do listen/care.

You linked a year old thread. Why both trawling around looking for some sort of justification and instead follow the advice given.
