The arguments about it costing money are moronic. Fact is, everything Valve does, such as this forum, costs money, and also the fact that STEAM could charge for account age verification in much the same way X (twitter) does their account verification.
The arguments about retaining info and whatnot is also bogus, as many companies do the initial verification and then mark the account as verified...this is how Amazon does the Prime TV here in Germany.
When I set up my Prime TV I had to enter some of the numbers on my passport (there were multiple ID type options), then i created a PIN, and then 18+ content was unlocked.....took all of 5 minutes.
Along with porn games, Valve would also be able to sell uncut games to any verified account, which would mean more money for them as we would no longer have to get keys from other sources.
I don't know why Valve doesn't do this, but more than likely it's either laziness or incompetence, maybe even both.
And of course the trifecta of "change your government", "Valve cannot do something every other store is perfectly capable of doing", and "not Valve's problem" has already been brought up.
The same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story for over five years now. It's amazing how little Valve cares and how fanbois keep whiteknightening for them as long as it doesn't affect them.
Or in Layman's terms. There weren't enough people buying to creat a difference in the revenue stream when they made the change.
For that you need to be a chinese people who have to provide card id on the web side ...That's the only way to verify your age.

and valve is not able to do this? this is just embarrassing
As its been repeatedly explained there is a difference between not able to do this, and choosing not to do this. Choosing not to sell the content complies with the law. It just complies in a way that some people don't like.
There are lots of reasons why they might not choose to do it, and they won't tell us what the reason is. They are aware of the law, aware of the restrictions its not like they don't know about it.
It also isn't maintained by Valve.
Again there are multiple potential reasons, just ones that you don't like. Reasons such as
Costs being more then they'd benefit
Them taking a stance against forcing the requirements
Bigger things they are working on that benefit more people and generate more revenue
etc.
yep, they already have systems in place, they just need to adjust and move them to other areas that require it.
as for the people who jump into threads to argue them down, without any clue how things work, or simply ignore that there are already solutions, but would rather not disclose said info in favor of arguing.... they do that purposely and in most cases, to simply get threads locked because of the arguing.
would suggest "block and ignore" , but we all know how bad that system is.
-----------------
as for the OP, i agree, they should already have a system in place in regions that require this, sadly valve does things on "valve time".
Weird how that works.
good post, brings to attention they already have a solution in place, they just havent got around to implementing it in other regions, it seems.
not to mention "outs" the obvious people, who create arguments where none exist.
let alone the replies they leave, showing they arent here for proper discussion.
as well as the replies trying to lure me into arguments, or claims of editing your comments is somehow a bad thing
or someone handing out "jester points" is somehow "people who were wrong, making amends on being wrong".
