Thats nice... what about the people that WILL complain after they delete their items and then want them back.
Seriously, the hide feature gives you EXACTLY what you want. You will not see it ever again if you don't want to. Deleting items doesn't give you anything extra.
Says the person who is not a Valve employee and has no knowledge of Valves reasoning to begin with....
Never once have I said I know what Valve is thinking. I'm actually going by what I have PERSONALLY seen on the forums and what I don't want to happen again.
I have seen people complaining about how slow Steam Support is.
I have seen people come ranting here on the forums after Steam Support took a while to get to them.
I have seen people come ranting here when they were told they were not getting items back.
I have seen people come ranting here saying that they have sent many messages to Steam Support to get items back but are being ignored.
I have seen many people come ranting here on the forums over and over again when they kept getting their posts deleted/closed by mods because they were ranting about not getting their items back.
I have seen many people come ranting here, making alt accounts complaining that they have been banned from posting because mods banned them after they went on a posting spree ranting about not getting their items back.
We know for a fact all this has happened in the past (least for those who have been here since the forums have been around), and with pretty high certainty we can say it will happen again if Valve allows people to delete stuff that they can no longer get back by just buying it on the market again because the items were never on the market and can no longer by obtained even via trading.
An advanced hide, like you can do with games, does EVERYTHING that the OP and others want. They never have to see the items again unless they dig.
I do know for a fact that Valve made these DISCUSSION forums, so that people can DISCUSS items that people suggest. If they didn't want people to DISCUSS the good and bad points about suggestions, they would just make a suggestion box that the suggestion goes into and no one else other than Valve sees it.
But they haven't done that, so that must mean, they want us to DISCUSS the suggestions.
As I said, on this forum, when suggestions are discussed, the possibility of scammers or dumb users misunderstanding the functionality is routinely dismissed. If this forum is for discussing suggestions I welcome you to use it and pay attention to how they are discussed. It is very enlightening.
in the end they are worthless and wasting space in my inventory.. and im sure not going to use them to spam people with on my friends list either, so they have zero use to me.
anywho, the inventory should have a sorting feature (yep im suggesting more) and should have an option to recycle everything (yes, everything), or delete them, in any case, if it cant be sold or traded, then it should at least be able to be recycled into gems.
as for others doing things they do, just like it was for when they get their accounts stolen/hijacked... they are responsible for their own account and w/e else it entails, which means that excuse doesnt work at all and sure shouldnt be a hindrance to everyone else on the platform, or the platforms possibilities to grow and do better things.
as for steam support or w/e thats being mentioned, they are slow because valve decided to out source moderation and support, with a tiny team that doesnt seem to be able to handle the work, or simply doing a bad job (could even be using ai nonsense), instead of valve hiring a bigger team (not outsourced) and doing a proper job, they took the lazy route and the customers/users are the ones paying for it.
that all being said and as mentioned already, inventory needs a sorting feature and all those useless stickers should be able to be recycled.
How is hiding them and never seeing them again different from deleting them and never seeing them again other then being able to get them back if you want to. If you don't want them back... then don't unhide them... its just that simple.
If they are deleted they are gone for good, if you regret deleting them or someone gets into your account (hijacking, phishing, annoying person/kid in your home) there is nothing you can do. If you regret hiding them or someone gets into your account (hijacking, phishing, annoying person/kid in your home). you can unhide them.
Either way, hiding them means they are out of your sight. No longer in your inventory. It creates less potential problems in the future.
you mean you dont know the difference between "hiding" and "gone"?
one means they are still there but hidden, the other simply means gone, as in no longer there.
i wont regret deleting something that has no worth and isnt being used, so that excuse doesnt work with me.
nor do i get phished, hijacked, or scammed, so again, that excuse doesnt work with me.
people are responsible for their own actions and their own account, w/e happens is their own problem(s), not mine or anyone else.
in any case, hiding them is not the option, recycling them and thus removing them from the inventory is 1000x's better than hiding them.
anywho, end of story, im not doing the circular arguing nonsense, while you repeat the same thing over and over, ignoring everything else.
nothing more you say is going to change anything.
bye and have a nice day/night
Steam should just scrap the current system, giving points for the ones we own, and releasing a completely new, consistent set that cost points to purchase.
The badge system need to be reworked too. It's ridiculous.
There is no difference between not seeing them because they are gone, and not seeing them because they are hidden.... either way you don't see them. When you "perma delete" a game from your library, you don't see a blank spot in your library where it should be... you don't see it at all. You have to go digging in the support section to get them back... meaning its hidden from your view, if you don't think about it, for all intents and purposes its gone from your library. Thats how an inventory hide should work too.
So no, there is no difference.
Thats nice that you don't think you will get phished or hijacked or any of the other issues that could happen... none of the people that did get phished or hijacked thought they would get phished and hijacked either.
I don't believe I will get scammed/phished/hijacked. But I also know that if I did, I would not want a system in place where I could not get my items back if someone wanted to do as much damage as they could.
Right now stuff that gets gemmed can be replaced by buying them again on the market. Stuff that can't be gemmed can't be rebought on the market. With the hide system, I could get the stuff back if something happens.
I shouldn't have to deal with all the security to get into my account as I do, but I also know I have to put up with it because too many people have fallen for stuff that let people into their account and if it was optional the people that need it would not be using it.
Think of a hide feature for an inventory item as an airbag for your car.... you might never need it your entire life... but if you do need it, you will be glad its there.
😉
So yes an advanced hide is not a value add. I want a delete.
Hiding at least makes sense to me, I got 10k+ items in my inventory, some of which only I myself can see as they are items from games that are no longer on steam but like games, Valve does not remove the items even if the game is removed from the store, hiding those things would be nice as I frankly don't even need to look at them anymore.
From mentioned ideas sorting is great one and it would help with every other option too.
Hiding is safe choice and somewhat sufficient but lets be honest if you have half empty wallet and no rare items you're more likely to regret wasted resources on something dumb than something lost. Recently games could be deleted from library and account can be deleted still so colectibles are no big deal. Wish I could play Warlords2 or some 90s RTS but it's past and it's necessary to move on especialy if new stuff surpassed that.
Plain delete is just slightly better than jammed inventory and definetly worse than hide option so
what I would prefer is some sort of recycle. Gems would be nice ...way to nice if there's risk of loophole. I mean in beginning of point shop some smartazz started to make infinite money because of it and currently only thing preventing community market from making infinite money is 2c fee and fact that market theory surprisingly works here so prices remain fairly balanced.
So by me best option is recycling stuff back to points for Point shop even if just part of it.
Also about moderators I don't know what they think either but they seem to settle for observing and ocasionaly giving axe to something duplicate, hopeless for inovation or inapropriate while evading skirmishes with keyboard wariors. They're bit boring though by just letting every discussion play out on its own without chiming in unless they find you worthy enough to tell why the post is getting axe before doing so.
