Add fixes to old games requiring any
Hundreds of older games require specific fixes and tweaks to run on modern systems. BUT they do run after applying the fixes. So why not include them from the start? GOG can do it as far as I heard, so why not here?

Okay for starters. Not many games actually had voodoo baked in to that degree. Sure there were more than a few that had optimizations and enhancements for voodoo but few actually required it. because that was a silly idea. For reasons that became obvious after 3dfx went belly up.

The thing is. Regardless of how simple the fix is, Valve cannot apply it. Because tampering with somoeone else's software is illegal.

It's like the old saying.

You can pick your friends. And You can pick your nose. But you can't pick your friend;'s nose.

It's not worth the liability risk or the headache of added responsibility.

Amusing how extremely aggressive and hostile some of you react here. You should try to calm down once in a while and simply have a discussion, it is great!

Fact is that many fixes are not that complex. Fact is many old games require similar or the same fixes.

So the question I am posing is: What's so difficult to come to an agreement with each other to automate it?
This is a board for people who are not Valve employees to pretend to be such to abuse people who come in with suggestions.

That said, my experience with Steam workshop, mods, and updates suggests Valve has a bad track record with trying to automate the tinkering half of the hobby. Reducing that part of it to get more people dependent on black box fixes administered by Valve I do not think leads to anywhere beneficial. GOG at least started out driven by enthusiasts and at that scale it could work but Valve is not the company I would trust with this. Remember it took them nine months to fix the back button in their own client.

The law. Steam cannot change the game files or do anything to modify their files. GoG encourages developers to include the fixes and have them as part of the installer, The developers are free to do it on Steam as well but they don't really care to as the older games that it would be useful on don't sell so its not profitable for them.

its one of the reasons why GoG stopped pushing on it as well
