Remove Limited Accounts from the Forum
Since I returned to steam, no one that has ever had a limited account has ever come to the Forums with legitimate things to add. They're always alts of someone to get around posting limits or to ban evade. This would be an easy situation to solve. Remove their ability to post in the forum at all outside of the free game forums they downloaded.

We've been requesting this for a while. I haven't seen a single limited account that hasn't been used to specifically and intentionally troll the forums. Some literally never had anything on their account, or any of their alts. When even Support is aware of such actions by notifying the user they're aware of such, the lack of proper action is astoundingly awful.

Some others that have numbers-only names but aren't limited accounts, are typically permanently banned from changing their name due to racial slurs as their usernames. So as we've overwhelmingly seen in the past year, all or almost all limited accounts posting on the forums have stated of ill-intent yet mods/support don't seem to care.

While I don't think they should be stopped from posting on the forums because at least some are going to be users who want to ask questions about a game before buying (which I fully encourage), I do think limited accounts should be far more limited.

Limits should be say making 5 new threads a week and being limited to 10 to 15 replies to any threads per week. Once limits are hit, a message pops up reminding them that they are suing a limited account and to make it unlimited they can buy a 5+ dollar game or add 5 dollars to the account.

People who are actually asking questions about a game should be fine with that limit. People who just want to spam with limited accounts will be forced to make new accounts to spam which takes a bit of time but also increases the chance that they will be perma banned. Same goes for trolls. Makes it much more annoying for them to troll.

Other limits should be.

Can not receive awards.
Can not use an avatar.
Can not use a custom name.
Can not upload art or screenshots.
Can not post to suggestions/ideas sections of any forum. Heck maybe limit them to only posting in game discussion areas and the help section.

Basically make limited accounts very limited in what they can do, to add more pressure to add the 5 bucks and/or buy games.

People should be able to ask questions without having the need to pay. For me that goes for both the game hubs and the general Steam forums.

Gwars suggestions seem to take that into consideration.

Yeah, there needs to be limits on this alt abuse, one way or another.

Lets just limit everyone who joined Steam after me and be done with it.

Everyone has the same rights on Steam and forums (including avatars, screenshot, awards etc), people just need behave and if they can't accept that their opinion isn't always the right one or one that everyone else agrees with then they'll have to deal with the consequences. After all not everyone with a limited account is causing any trouble and most folks shouldn't have to suffer for those who take the piss.

Kind of using cannonballs to kill flies.
Limited users also need to use the forums and they're already pretty limited on what they can do (where to post, number of posts they can make)

There is always going to be people trying to game the system, but that's what moderators are there for.

Perhaps a more exclusive forum area would be better.

Create a group if you want an exclusive area.

i see non limited accounts behaving just as bad.

Steam Groups are a frankly underused feature. You get a whole set of features 'for free' including your own forum and comments section all of it managed and moderated as you see fit.

What's the point if whenever people that are a problem are almost always unbanned by Support whenever they ask for it? It's rewarding negative behavior, we need real involved moderation again.

it aint just limited accounts causing issues in the forum.

seems more of people grinding their axes on specific users.

while ignoring the rest of the issues.

i mean, i just had me and 2 others making good convo's and someone comes in to derail the topic causing arguing, then claims of false reports...on all of us.

person isnt limited either.

supposedly me using the word "they" is against the rules according to that person.

i could list off many instances where non limited accounts are causing issues in the forums.

where is moderation for them?

in any case, i simply had to leave the thread, cause reports are doing nothing, as usual.

even wasted my time making a suppot ticket, maybe support can do the moderating..

vmods were 100x better than this and they did it for free.

Maybe people could just... dunno... stop caring about those and stop giving those attention they crave so much? You know - apathy. Apathy is the answer.
William Shakesman 2024 年 4 月 6 日 下午 5:11
Just because you lose arguments against people with certain account types doesn't mean you should get Valve to restrict those accounts further. Only a tiny but vocal minority has any trouble with limited account users.
