Telling people they said something they didn't should be actionable.
This happens a lot, people love to tell other people that they said something they didn't in order to rile them up and hopefully get them to cross the line and get banned. How would I know that the end goal is getting someone banned, because when the desired effect isn't gained or the person points out that they know what the end goal actually is, suddenly, the person making claims as to what the other person said when they didn't say those things... gets very quiet. This kind of behavior should fall under the ToS and get people warned and banned.

Quite often people are quoted for things they did say and the other person claims they didn't despite literal quotes, which is usually the people claiming to hate gaslighting that are claiming they didn't write something that they did.

Inflammatory comments or editing quotes into what wasn't said is already actionable, so this is redundant as a suggestion.

That turns into he said / she said and steam isn't going to track down and read all your forum posts to try to determine with every claim who is or isn't telling the truth. Especialy with posts able to be deleted or moderated.

The best response if someone makes a claim like that is ask them to quote it if they want to claim it, and if they can't back it up via a quote their claim holds no weight.

Yeah. It should be actionable.

Like claiming someone called someone's trauma a 'joke'.

Honestly, it'd be great if it was added to the part of report, block, move on. Now if only more people did the block and move on part. :SpadeSmug:

Correct.

I still see responses from people who have claimed to block me.

Most useful online pro tip: whenever someone says "sounds like you think that..." or any variation thereof, immediately stop reading and block the person. I promise it cleans up almost every dishonest arguer on the whole internet.

To anyone that has someone live rent free in their head, if you use the block button, that person magically goes away. You never have to see them again if you don't want to. All of those problems just magically vanish instantly. It's really amazing. :SpadeSmug:

Do you have an example or is it just vague thread season?

This is kinda funny though, as it's the OP's who's been going around blocking all willy-nilly and doing all those things.

Definitely starting to see a similarity here.
Anyway, people that disagree doesn't mean they go blocking each other.

Though amusingly, even if regular customers block bad actors & ignore them, the bad actors usually still get banned for poor behavior on the forums for trying to bait people when they know they're blocked. So at that point, troublemakers can only still blame themselves for their own poor behavior, not the people that actually do block and ignore them. Regardless of a bad actor being blocked or not, ignored or not, they tend to get themselves banned.

Oh my goodness, this topic gives me an idea for a guide to steam itself.

I think that's the real frustration here.

Not being able to resist responding to people that have been blocked and getting more upset that those people don't get banned for comments that don't break any rules.

A lot of things should be actionable, op, like saying that "black people admire crime and violence". That sounds pretty racist to me, don't you agree?

I've reported this back in February, no action taken so far. In reality, there are no rules or moderators, you'll understand this if you stick around for long enough.

Pretty nothing, that sounds overtly racist.

Exactly. And some regulars still insist that one report is enough... well, I wish they were right.
