Adding Pronouns and Gender Flags to Steam Profiles
Dear Steam Support,

I am writing to request the addition of pronouns and gender flag options to Steam profiles.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I believe it is important for players to be able to express their gender identity and pronouns on their profiles. This would allow for a more inclusive and welcoming gaming environment for all players.

Many other online platforms, including social media and gaming services, have already implemented similar features, and I believe Steam should follow suit. This would be a positive step towards creating a more inclusive and respectful community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

It's just a question of whether the Steam community as a whole is mature enough to be able to handle them, which I don't know the answer to.
I want to think it is.

Don't think the small noise in forums is representative of the largest part of the userbase. Out of here and the regressive club clutching pearls about it I see people displaying their pronoums in more and more places.
According to Google, there are currently about 70 to 110 different genders. Would Steam be expected to add all of those?

And more being created every day? To such a degree that our best estimates have almost an order of magnitude range? Truly remarkable.

Where does it end...the gender pronoun list would be 10 miles long in a year or less.

And if they miss one...brace for the bigot posts for your reckless abandon of "inclusion". People legit identify as horses and dogs these days so 🤦

Why not ask for this 7 years ago? Why now?
As other people are saying in the thread, many are being created by the day so there's no way the need could have existed 7 years ago as most did not exist back then

There were already 8 distinct categories of genders[www.myjewishlearning.com] before the year 500, so the reason this wasn't asked 7 years ago is that threads generally get locked if they are posted to after seven years of silence.
It's so sad that people that are not hetero feel the need to openly 'flag' their sexual preference on a gaming platform. You are not special just because you have a different preference.

It has nothing to do with being immature, most people in the world are just not brainwashed, and so do not want this BS wokeness to infect everything, as once it infects your hobbies they gets destroyed from the inside, as there will no longer be any space for those who do not agree with the woke social agenda.

At least we are not like some countries that you are no longer allowed to criticize without being called N***s or other bad names, and of cause human rights should be applied to everyone, but it's not a human right to have your pronoun or delusion validated by others.

tho i want to make it clear that I do not support any kind of harassment of anyone, even if i don't agree with said person.
No thanks, away with this nonsense.
Sure but keep it simple.
He, She, They for pronouns and Male, Female, Nonbinary for gender.
Thats enough.

Like already mentioned if you add everything thats been added to the pronoun and gender list over the last few years it would be exessive.

It's a nice idea in theory but there are at least a couple of issues that could arise:
- If pronouns can be selected from a pre-populated list, then there will certainly end up being people who feel their preferred pronouns are not properly represented and will feel excluded and possibly offended.
- If pronouns are just a small text field where people can write whatever they want, we would absolutely get trolls and bigots using that field to mock and demean what they see as "wokeism".

It does seem that the current best way to address OP's problem is simply to include one's pronouns on the top of their profile page in the description field.
that's not visible when you hover over a person's name. try it. the only thing listed is their badge and username. which game has pronoun badges? I don't know any. What if my username was
Blitz4 (he/him)
That'd not only show when hovering, but when reading a post and also when quoting someone else.

EDIT: To add. Discord allows the information box atop your profile here on steam to show under your username, but I believe it's only a 1-liner.

... And if you hover over someone and it shows (his royal highness)?

oh no it'd be like this:

username (his royal highness)

and if you quoted that it'd show in your quote. this is a very moot point because think about how few people would even do this. I mentioned an idea, you mentioned an idea and OP didn't care so why should we? Is OP baiting for attention or arguing to argue? who knows. i'm out.

I mean if you ask me the correct answer is to call his royal highness as he wishes to be called. That's like the bare minimum for being a decent human being after all.
