Believing that LGBTQ people do not deserve basic human rights like the right not to be assaulted and/or murdered for who they are or the partners they have is also bigoted. No one deserves to be denied human rights, that's why they are called human rights. Yes there are people in the world who believe human rights should be denied, those people are widely considered evil (i.e. the Nazis).
The reason why people push back against the verbal homophobia, transphobia, and queerphobia is that bigoted movements like promotion of homophobia and transphobia typically result in real world action. People online or in the media can inspire others to hurt or kill people in real life 1[www.reuters.com], 2[www.reuters.com], 3[www.reuters.com], which to be fair is the fault of the person who causes the attack but is also partly the blame of those who encouraged it as well.
Homophobic and transphobic sentiment can also encourage the passing of laws designed to limit the human rights of those based on their identity or orientation, or even directly hurt them, such as the case in ♥♥♥ or trans panic defenses which allowed people who assaulted or killed someone ♥♥♥ or trans to make a claim that they lost control of themselves in the event they killed a ♥♥♥ or trans person and be found not guilty because of that.
So in short the whole reason that there isn't tolerance when it comes to bigotry against minorities is because it really hurts people, not just "their feewings" it actually gets people hurt or killed. This isn't a new concept either as racial attacks have happened all through history, turns out when people who hate a group some of those people take action against that group.
"Oh, my god, if we have a dedicated place for this we will all turn ♥♥♥!!!"
Steam Community. When you ca't decide whether to laugh or facepalm.
Who's dad is this.
using one of the free text areas makes more sense than a dedicated thing. because you know, gender and sexuality are entirely OPTIONAl disclosures that really have no impact on anything in the gaming space
Add to that the fact that they seem to be coming up with new genders, and flags ever couple months... it's basically a headache to try and keep up with that.
been there for over 36 hours
has been "awarded" with "wholesome"
Now the idea of Steam doing like reviews and banning anyone who awards an offensive post crossed my mind.
Steam is a gaming platform, not a dating platform, only on a dating platform this would be relevant.
Your Gender/Sexuality is not interesting enough, nor is it important, nor is it relevant. It simply doesn't matter.
I'm so glad that Steam doesn't have a “gender/race/sexuality” field because it's irrelevant. That's how it should be on other platforms as well: Irrelevant (unless it's a dating platform)!
Why do you want to ruin this? Why do want to tread people different because of their sexualities/genders/etc?
If you like it, or not, you are not a special person, your “LGBT…” credentials don't mean anything here, you are one of us, you are a Gamer!
No, not really.
