UI Redesign Overall
I think Steam Desktop should be redesign with a more modern look and slick interface. Sort of like Google Android Material Design with Flat colors and 3D windows. Also the desktop icon for windows and linux is a ugly low res icon which needs to be replaced compairing to Mac OS steam icon. This can also boost performance as well. Also add sub-categories and organizational improvements for your game library. It seems they are only focusing on big picture and there's still no ability to change the overall UI color theme to your personal preferences such as red, green, orange, etc. I am not the biggest fan of blue but it's good looking and consitant which is a good thing but I would like more personalzation.

We don't actually need Google's material design - if anything that would feel "out of place" for Steam. The iOS app was overhauled last year - I'd love the desktop and Android clients to be designed around it.

The iOS app:

Well I didn't mean to actually use google's material design, it just an example of a modern design that looks nice. Yeah, iOS has a much cleaner and more modern look than the android, mac os, linux, and windows version. Why is Valve taking so long to implement this design ui to all version of the client?
have you tried metro for Steam skin? Ya its not build in, but its good for now you can even set your own colors and all

If you do not know how to set skins here is a video abut it:

The design of the iOS app mirrors the general trend Steam's had for a while now of a blueish look.

My personal theory is that Valve will at some point want to replace the VGUI toolkit that they currently use for the Steam UI, because there are lots of things about it that are just not very good. However, switching to a different toolkit means that they'll more or less have to rewrite the UI code from scratch, which is a bit non-trivial.

So I reckon at some point they'll release a new Steam client with a totally rewritten front-end, sporting the new blueish design. There's probably also going to be a big update to the store at some point to improve game discoverability. Would make a lot of sense to release the store update / redesign and a client update / redesign at the same time. Big chunk of work, can't release it in bits, implies it'll take a while. I could be wrong, though.

Yes, I'm aware of steam skins that I can use, but I don't like how it's not build in and if Valve updates the steam client with UI tweaks, the skin can be outdated and not be perfect and follow along with update...
