You really don't know how good some hackers are do you... many of them hack stuff just for fun, or because someone claims it can't be hacked. Its like saying "this lock is unpickable" and then someone picks it in 30 seconds.
I'm not even into hacking and I already thought of ways around the "not even able to turn it on" and thats open it up, rearrange some wiring, replace hard drive with my own, flash bios just to name a few ways.
I have yet to see the "if it can be programmed, it can be hacked" actually fail. It might take some time but it does happen. And once something is cracked you usually have to come up with a whole new way to lock it up. because patching it doesn't even really slow down the hackers after that point. Denuvo for example. It took a while for the first one to be hacked. After that point new versions fell faster and faster. In some cases the games were cracked even before the games were out because they somehow got access to the full game before hand. Every time they went up a full number (Denuvo 1, 2, 3, etc) it took a bit of time to crack. but was eventually.
As long as people have physical access to the computer the software is on, expect it to be hacked.
What you want is just simply not possible without Valve selling very overly expensive computers that are totally sealed and if any seal is broken it breaks a vial of acid or something inside the hard drive and destroys all the data even without the computer being plugged in....
But no one would ever buy a computer like that.
If Riot games owned by the chiness company Tencent can do it, why cant Valve ?
Tencent is using kernel 0 anticheat rootkit in Valorant as part of the anticheat system !
flash bios ? .. with what ? . i just told you if its not the bios from the producents then you cant used it, and thous bios would not work if you mess with them .. simply just lock the pc down so you cant hack or crack from it "! .. you can play videogames, you can surf, you can do all kind of things .. you just cant use it to develop or run illegal selfmade programs from it anymore ..
That would be the best anti hacking system ever for consumers ..
because then even if a hacker gets his hands on a unlocked pc, then his software or source codes or whatever he dish up with will not work on the locked pc systems anyways .. not even a virus would work .. so its the end of viruses too with this option ..
bad for the software company´s that tryes to make money on pc security .. but good for the people !
So you want all these companies to build a whole new computer hardware system, that would make it impossible to upgrade any part of it, and would be overly expensive just to stop people cheating in a game....
BAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Basically what you are asking for is for a console. Why don't you go buy a PS1, 2, 3, Xbox 1,2... because thats what they are specialized hardware for gaming... there was still cheaters, but well thats what you want is a system that can't be easily tampered with... Oh and are you prepared to spend around 5000 or more on the system that you can't upgrade and need to replace every 2 to 3 years? More likely sooner than that because once a hacker figures their way in, all that needs to be tossed out
All that just to try to avoid cheaters....
Seriously you have no idea how tempting the "unhackable game PC" would be for hackers... They would literally have it ripped apart by the first weekend it was out. They could be working on hardware and programming for getting access to it the coding by the end of the week.
Seriously there is competitions for hackers every single year in Las Vegas and around the world to hack stuff that is shown to them for the first time at the start of that weekend, by the end of the weekend, its been cracked 10 different ways. Hardware stuff is the same.
You would literally have to do what I suggested which would be to have a totally sealed box with no access at all and if cracked opened it kills the hard drive right away.
You could not even include an internet connection to this thing or any other way to inject any kind of code onto the drive. The keyboard, mouse, speakers and monitor would have be connected, no forget about using you like. Seriously any kind of external connection that they could get into the system would be an opening that they could take advantage of.
Or you could do what I suggest here, I'm done with this thread, its providing far too many laughs this late of night...
Copy and paste for every time a "I have a great idea to stop cheating" and the "DO SOMETHING" posts that always happen...
While below is mainly aimed at VAC, it can be said about any anti-cheat software.
Do you really think that they just sit there saying, "oh we have the perfect way to stop all hackers/cheaters once and for all, but we're just not going to do it cause we're lazy, ohh look at that, more money just rolled in, time to sit back doing nothing again"....
You have no idea how hard it is to stop hackers/cheater.
Blocking IPs are pointless, IPs can be changed in seconds, also if you block a single IP you could end up blocking lots of innocent people specially if the ISPs reuse IPs.
Blocking Hardware IDs is also as pointless, they can be changed and if you sell off your hardware, anyone who gets it will be banned.
Valve has to know about the hack and has to get their hands on it.
Then they have to figure out how it does its thing.
Then they have to figure out how to detect someone using it.
Then they have to figure out how to make sure they don't get any false positives.
Then they make it go active for a few weeks before actually hitting the kill switch.
Even before hitting the waiting time, this could be a few weeks work or more.
Why do they wait a few weeks to hit the kill switch? To get as many cheaters as they can in the net so that once they turn it on, the roaches don't go screaming to people "don't turn on the hack, its been detected".
Valve is also working on an automated way to detect cheating with teaching an AI what to look for. BUT this takes a long time to do and even then its not going to be perfect. Valve needs it to be perfect, to not create false positives that ban people who didn't actually cheat.
Now, do you know how easy it is for a cheat maker to change the cheat to make it undetectable? Sometimes its as simple as changing a few lines of code and thats it. Basically a few minutes work, then compile the program, test it, and upload it somewhere.
So if you want to help Valve, stop making posts like this. Look for people spreading urls to websites with hacks and send those urls (for the hacks and hack sites) to steam support. Don't post them in public, just send it to steam support.
If the game is not VAC protected, then you have to contact the game developer/publisher via the games discussion area and ask them how to submit the stuff to them.
An example of why Riot may not be making the best move:
It also wouldn't stop cheating, just make it harder.
The better solution would be for such competitive multiplayer games to move to a cloud based service instead of a local based service. The bandwidth requirements would jump up a fair amount, but there would be less risk to the user's system while maintaining a better, cheat free system.
Hackers will literally take chips off of boards and build stuff to read them and reencode them. Yes they will go that far.
If you can download stuff to it and run stuff on it, then it can and will be used for hacking. Your computer can not identify that someone is cheating with it unless it has anti cheat software on it that knows what its looking for... which as mentioned can be hacked.
What you want is impossible.
Yep, that is how consoles are modded and hacked. They either modify a chip or add a new chip in that allows them to modify code.
Then they have to figure out how it does its thing.
Then they have to figure out how to detect someone using it.
Then they have to figure out how to make sure they don't get any false positives.
Then they make it go active for a few weeks before actually hitting the kill switch.
Even before hitting the waiting time, this could be a few weeks work or more ???
Naah .. i got one simple anticheat solution to that part, and thats called Client game mechanics, act of doing and logic sense = instant vacbans with 0 false possitiv !
That would be able to catch any cheats from simple esp/anti aim/armor boost to blatant spinbots and blatant wallhacking instant with 0% false catches .. because its the game mechanics and logic you use to fight off the cheaters with ..
Oh and i got another great idea ..
How about Valve get in touch with the ISP ? .. then the ISP bans the cheaters directly and exclude him/her for getting on the internet at all if continue doing it ?
If the cheaters cant get access to the internet, then he cant cheat in the games .. win win and the best anti cheat .. same goes for hacking !
Going by what I have seen of Riots new system... there are some MAJOR issues with it like always running in the background even if you uninstall the game and slowing down other programs and games.
If a hacker ever cracks it in such a way that they can inject virus code into it, well just imagine the damage it could do if that code is ever included in stuff that people might be interested in and I'm not just talking cheats, it could be hidden as anything.
I know i know .. was allso the reason why i wanted a bios and lockdown of the pc systems so the regular consumers cant run or create illegal software, scripts and stuff like that themself !
its kinda like haveing a weapon law .. so if you dont have a legit permission to carry a firearm you wont be allowed to do it and if caught you will be punished ..
Same thing i want on the computers ! .. because then the regular consumer cannot create or run illegal codes, scripts and software ..
best anticheat, antihack, antivirus idea anno 2020 xD
you could even drag it so far, so it would protect movies and music from being able to play unless you pay for it first, that would protect the copyright and illegal share of files would stop aswell ..
even illegal pictures and ♥♥♥♥ could be stopped this way ..
Wow such great ideas here, you know you should really work for a gaming company, I'm sure they would love all your ideas, there is no way they would ever go out of business implementing everything you want done.
I know I said I was going to leave but this is just too much comedy gold.
Cheating reports are done FAR faster when they include links to actual cheats or sites with them, reporting cheaters does pretty much nothing because they need to be caught in the act. If they did ban people who were just reported what do you think would happen around here? Everyone and their grandmother would be reported for hacking just because they didn't like you thats what.
You don't see people getting banned right away because as mentioned in that post, they like to let more fish fill the net instead of pulling it up when they see 1 fish in it.
ISPs will laugh at them and say give us money to cut off these people. The parents of the kids that were caught cheating would be very VERY pissed off at the ISPs and lawyers would get involved.
Also its not actually illegal to cheat so nothing the ISPs could do.
well not if you live in korea

TPM Chip
Every PC that runs windows 10 has it. Its not suppose to let other OSes run on systems with it... guess what, hackers got windows 7 running on systems with it. Didn't even have to hack the hardware itself if I remember right, they just used a hacked version of windows 7.
Again if people have access to put stuff on the system, they have access to hack the system. You literally have to stop people having physical access to the system to stop people from being able to hack the system.
There is nothing illegal about hacking a single player game. (unless you’re hacking it to break the copyright protection on it in order to play it without a cd-key or something)
Hacking a multiplayer game on the other hand - depending on how you do it COULD be a crime but isn’t definitely a crime. If the hacking you’re doing only affects your end and doesn’t touch the server or the other clients connected to the server, you’re potentially violating your terms of service - but not likely committing a crime. If what you are doing revolves more around hacking the server that you’re playing on and not hacking the instance of the game running on your own computer - you’ve just stepped into a mess.
Will the company press charges? Not likely if you didn’t do actual damage - you’ll more likely be banned from the game. But if you messed things up while you were at it?
Expect an investigation to slowly lead back to you. Logs will likely be given to the FBI containing your connection information which, while it won’t lead right to your physical address, WILL lead them to your internet service provider who will lead them back to you even if behind a VPN ..
So thats allso the reason i think that we need the ISP on the table to help fight this cheating issue world wide !
I was right in that you don't live in the US... because you would know that there are many in the US that would NEVER stand for a law like that, it would be government interference. Just think of all the people right now that are in the US protesting against the stay at home rules that are in place... they are literally protesting to be able to get out there and not just get infected themselves, but to also be able to infect other people. They don't care if they die or not.
Do you really think they would put up with laws that would allow the government to cut off your internet connection if you got caught cheating on it...
Also there is such thing as wireless connections and IP spoofing and people use others connections without their knowing so you know lots of innocent people having their connections cut off. So ya thats more reason why this will never happen in the US. And if it doesn't happen there, its not really going happen anywhere else in large numbers to be effective.
SK is very e-sports crazy, that explains why they have that law, though I could have sworn it was challenged in court or was going though the court system.
