Automatic Screenshots
I would love it if there was an option for steam to take screenshot periodically. I like the look of shots that are taken during gameplay, but if I'm really into it I won't try to take them. For example, whille I'm playing Dark Souls there is no possible way I am going to stop during the middle of combat to take a picture of it. I wouldn't survive.

What I invision is a option that allows the user to turn on the periodic screenshot feature. There is a drop box that allows them to determine what interval they would want the picture to be taken (Every 5 seconds, 3 minutes, 1.5 hours, etc.). They could also chose a random feature, and put in an upper and lower bound (take a picture somewhere every 2 minutes and 10 minutes).

One problem that could happen is if someone left their computer on for 5 days straight while their game is running. This can be solved one of three ways. Their can be a setting that stop taking screen shots if there hasn't been an imput in a given amount of time (computer hasn't been touched in 5 minutes, stop taking screen shots), there is maximum amount of pictures per game session (only take 20 pictures per session, then stop), or a limit on amount of time screenshots can be taken (after 2 hours, stop taking screen shots).

I'd love to have a feature like this, and I think it could result in a lot of really awesome pictures that people didn't even realize they could get.

I would never want steam to take screenshots automatically without some way to turn it off for good. I don't want to have to turn it off every time I start up a game. And if you are leaving your system on with a game running and you are not there, why would you want it to take screen shot? Its just going to be the same image over and over and over again.

Here is an easier suggestion, get a gaming mouse with a whole lot of extra buttons and set one of those buttons to take screenshots when you press it. This way you don't have to stop the action for a shot to be taken and you can have it take a screenshot when its actually interesting. If you rely on steam to auto take screenshots every x seconds, chances are you're gonna miss a great shot you want, unless you take it yourself, which really defeats the reason having the auto screenshot. There is also no way for steam to know how long your gaming session could be, it could be 5 minutes long, it could be 3 hours long, so saying take 20 screenshots in a session is pointless.

The way you want to do it is gonna take up a huge amount of hard drive space. Its also going to take up a bunch of time when you have to go back though 20, or 100 or 1000 screenshots to find one or 2 you want to upload. And I like I mentioned, you're more then likely going to have to take the screen shot yourself to get a picture of what you actually want.

I might be interested if it was tied to achievements or something so whenever you get an achievement it automatically takes one.

Game Devs can all ready do it, but i do agree :D: (As its build into the SteamWroks, but the Dev needs to set it on)

Now thats one I could get behind, cause sometimes you have no idea you even got the achievement till after the game is over

I rarely even know when I get an Achievement; I come from a PS/XB background - I'd really like the option to add a simple sound when you get an achievement.

Basically, what I've thought to do is I use NVIDIA Shadowplay's [Shadow] recording. On FRAPS that would be called "Loop buffer". If it's something within x area, I can press the button and it will record everything from within that certain timeframe.

I then open up a videoplayer, go to the point which was nice looking. Pause. Take a snapshot of that. Then place it in the game's screenshots and thumbnails folder and restart Steam.

The pictures won't be as sharp, but they're something at least and I don't have to take the screenshot in real time to manage.

You could just use macro software to have your screenshot button repeat via a toggle?

I know Logitech's software allows for this kind of thing, I could bind my screenshot key to a G key and have it toggleable where it'll "press" every x seconds. I belive it depends on the software you use, but I think it's do-able via most :)

Yup would be great if something like this was implemented.
It could be similar to how uplay takes a screenshot every time a new achievement is unlocked.
