It brings no value to the steam community.
People don't even use it seriously (which is kind of ironic).

99% of time, people just use it on a post where someone says something that they do not like. The result is that a person who has a different opinion gets a bunch of clown awards, just because they have different opinion (regardless of whether that opinion is serious or not). For example, when people click my profile they see this stupid clown award on my profile, and won't take anything serious anymore that I say. And all that just because I had a different opinion about upcoming game releases. How does this bring value to the steam community?

The steam forums would be better if this stupid award is removed.

My suggestion was ( and still is) that only the thread creator should be able to give out awards in their thread. So if they think something is worth highlighting they can give out an award.
But random users should not be able to give out awards on any thread, would also curb the creation of "bait" threads where the thread creator just makes an outrageous statement with their thread and then leans back and collects the Jester awards.
"Jester farming" has become a real thing by now and it really is not good for the forum climate, especially on the game forums. One has just to look at the cesspools that the Baldurs Gate 3 or Starfield forums are for that.

Depends. I got like 75 jester awards so far which sounds a lot but i also got nearly a 1000 other awards so the jesters dont really stand out that much.

But yeah, if you are not super active on the forums and get a lot of awards for helping out and such the jesters can easily pile up on the profile.
And i am guilty of that too, if i see a profile which has a lot of jester awards on the profile i think
"ah, must be a troll" even if that is not really fair or objective.

There is exactly 0 chance that OP isn't farming for points here knowing people would give them Jester awards to mock their post.

Nobody is this naive. Add to that the fact that they picked a very active helps and tips forum to post their farm thread in instead of the far less active Suggestions / Ideas forum where this would go if it was a serious suggestion.

pro tip: if u dont want to make ur entire profile private u can hide the awards in ur profile settings
