Adding Value to Soundtracks on Steam with a Rhythm Game
Here's a weird idea,

WHAT IF
Valve made a rhythm game, and developers who put their soundtracks on Steam had the option to create their own charts for them within that rhythm game
Which gives those soundtracks more value for the consumer

This would likely increase the sales because for most customers, currently there is no real advantage to buy soundtracks on Steam over of using something like Spotify or Youtube.
This gives those soundtracks something you can't get without buying them Steam.

Increased Value for the Consumer
Increases Sales for the Game Companies
And Steam/Valve gets extra income from more Soundtrack sales

While everyone else who don't care about Soundtracks and/or Rhythm games can still just ignore the whole thing.

What if, you bought one of the many other rhythm games out there already and used the soundtracks you bought because they are in MP3 format (or at least some format that they can more then likely already load) and can be used with those games so Valve doesn't have to do anything because Valve is not going to make a rhythm game any time soon, if ever. Its just not their kind of game to make and as mentioned there are many out there already.

And no, it would not increase the sales of the soundtracks by any measurable amount.

I also highly doubt every other company that has given out/sold soundtracks would bother to make charts for someone elses game.

Also as far as I know you don't have to make charts for rhythm games, the game itself will make the map according to the music... least thats what I think you mean by charts is a map.

Rhythm games that generates charts automatically from the music file tends to have poor mapping

With DeepLearning AI rapidly improving and getting popular, this might change ofc. but as far as I know, doesn't exist yet.
If a solid AI solution is found, it could def be an option

I think giving options is pretty important.
So having options to

1-Just not be in the Rhythm game/not have a chart
2-Create a chart using the AI solution
3-Create a chart manually

being there would be the best for everyone
with a new Feature Tag added to Soundtrack pages indicating wether that soundtrack has charts or not. Similar to "Additional High-Quality Audio" Feature Tag

"You can listen to the stuff you bought" not value enough?

Which basically means a developer is going to have to manually go through and encode these things properly... for putentially hundreds and hundreds of tracks. That takes time and money. And who should pay for that ... the game developer, Valve, or the soundtrack developer?

That's up to the rhythm game developers to do.
Many already allow you to uise your own tracks.
If you want all 3 then you need to push that idea to more rhythm game developers.
But developers are very, vvery cautious about following such costly ideas because it seems that when it comes down to it..gamers aren't really willing to spend the extra dosh to have these wonderful features.

And if its worth nothing to the people asking for it, its not worth the devs time to implement it.

Trombone Champ is working on Workshop support, so it may happen.
