Boomer Shooter Tag shouldn't be a thing
The term Boomer Shooter was coined to be derisive about Retrostyled Indi shooters that are created in a Pixel aesthetic.

The term boomer is being used to show contempt for older people these days and tagging games boomer shooter is quite simply showing contempt for the games and their type.

It being popular on some social media sites, particularly the dead bird one that is called like a porn site these days, doesn't mean it should be a thing on Steam.

Call it retro shooter or classic shooter or 90ties shooter. But Boomer Shooter is clearly meant to show contempt for the subject matter.

I quite frankly take exception to the term as someone that enjoys these type of games. There is nothing wrong with titles like Boltgun and there is also absolutely no reason to be derisive about it and calling them in a disparaging fashion.

Boomer has been used as an insult for a few years now and having that Tag there is a meme at best and insulting at worst.

And as i am sure, the usual suspects will be around shortly to talk about my feefees, and how it is A-okay and that we should all be fine with insulting labels, don't really expect a response for me.

I agree with OP. Get rid of the term. I'll never understand how it became a term. I was a teenager when Doom came out. It and games like it aren't "boomer shooters". I'm not a boomer, I'm gen-X. My parents were boomers - as in baby boomers. For me it has a negative connotation. I more than often read or hear "ok boomer", and it does bother me. Even though, those who say it are always just ignorant individuals.

This better be a joke.
Because no one can ever claim Boomer Shooter is a bad thing.
It was literally coined as a love letter to Doom and the other OLDER games.

The entire point of it being called a boomer shooter is a nod to the older generation of games.
Doom is the Baby Boomer era of PC games.
Wolfenstein 3d was it's father, otherwise known as the Grandfather of FPS games.
It's father, Catacomb Abyss and the others, are the Great-Grandfather of FPS.

You want to blame someone blame the CREATOR of DUSK for coining the term as a love letter.
Good grief.

This is getting insane.

If you say so. I have to say it's odd that Szymanski chose an age-related term with negative connotations, and paired it with shooter as a term of endearment and respect towards the first classical shooters.

I hate the word. I like the terms "classic shooter" or "retro shooter" better.

Those of you who use the term "boomer shooter" as endearment and/or respect, thank you for being positive.

There is nothing wrong with a tag having a negative connotation. It helps people who don't like a game type to avoid it. Others who like it can find it.
That also means that to some it is a positive connotation.
That means you want to remove what some people like and some people dislike.
Do you have more rights than someone who likes it? I think not.

You have a fair point. I can't speak for everyone else. I felt it carried that negative dismissive tone (or however one would put it). This is an "old grampa" shooter like Doom that those old irrelevant gen-Xers love to play. If there are people who like the term and see it with positive connotation, can't argue with that.

Buzzwords come and go all the time. Don't overthink about them, otherwise you'll only get more annoyed. If it's bothering you, just ignore it. Life is too short to worry about stuff like this.

I really don't see how anyone could be offended by the words Boomer shooter unless they literally are just being offended for the sake of being offended.

Like how Dr. Disrespect was literally faking the outrage over the Starfield Pronouns. LOL.

The current state of modern morality has torn down any standing people have to claim someones outrage over discriminatory language is illegitimate. The only grounds by which people make that dismissal now is just "I don't like you so your offense is fake."
Sounds like a comment from the 'Satanic Panic' era.
Agreed.

It is a term I never cared for myself, as the whole "ok boomer" thing gave the term a negative association for me, on top of the fact that I see boomer as meaning a certain generation, not just a generic term for "old".. But, I've gotten more used to it at-least, even if I avoid using the term myself (I just call them FPS games).

The Ok boomer thing has nothing to do with the boomer shooter term, despite being a meme that came out years before.

I see nothing wrong with the tag as it appeared defined and is easily understood as what kind of experience would cover it. Much like if they made a "Millennial battle arena" tag it would fit things like "Totally Accurate Battlegrounds" etc.
