Maybe curate GOTY picks?
This year's winners are funny, but a lot of them didn't really deserve the win.
Memes aside, Steam should probably figure out some way to curate a list that people can pick from so they don't run into similarly embarrassing situations in the future.

I did laugh at the part where you thought me being mean to you because you misrepresented my position earlier, and lied about it, was ad hominem and the part when you confused a metaphor for a strawman was great. You really have a tenuous grasp on reading.
Congratulations, you got me.
Nah, you got yourself, bud. I'm just someone who calls out BS when I see it, with facts. You have yet to refute any piece of factual information I posted because it is all easily verified to be true. Your attempt to deflect and sidestep those facts is easily noticeable.

The Starfield negative reviews are filled with actual critiques.
That's not review bombing.
Even the positive reviews consistently mention that the game is unfinished, repetitive, a disappointment, etc.
Sure there are actual critiques, but there are also a lot of reviews there with obvious bones to pick with Bethsoft and their choices. There's also the two most recent which simply downvote because the game won a meaningless award.

But again, the FACT is that the game still has 64% overall positive reviews, meaning the MAJORITY of the people are satisfied with the purchase and recommend the game.

Valve not curating the awards: people make a stink
Valve curating the awards: people make a stink.
We have an example of that when Steam added community sales votes:
Valve curating sales deal: People made a stink (We want to choose!)
Valve adds community vote deals: People made a stink (Votes are rigged!)

Clearly, my assertion was that the majority of people don't agree with the results
And my assertion is that the majority of people think you're a pink unicorn from outer space.

You can't assert what the opinion of people who haven't voiced it is.

The only fact here is the majority of people who actually voiced their opinion and voted, did so for RDR2.

So, our solution is that anyone with Skyrim purchased can't vote.
Problem solved.
Spoiler: There's more people who don't own skyrim than people who do.
I was more surprised they got nominated to begin with. When I saw Starfield's category I assumed it'd win because the difference in player numbers between it and the other nominee's is significant. It has more positive reviews, despite being mixed, then the other games combined. The only one in the same stratosphere was Remnant 2, which is also not innovative given it's the same formula as the first game.

RDR2 though is mind boggling to me. Given it was up against some other very successful games and hasn't had a meaningful update in years. At the end of the day though it only takes a plurality to win.

For GOTY though, I don't think there was ever a question Baldur's Gate 3 was going to be nominated and win. That game is not only massively popular, but was also received very well. 96% positive reviews out of 467,029 for a game that released in August, a all time peak of 875,000 players, and a peak today of 237,000....that is a juggernaut.

I am going to call you a troll, because you created this argument by misquoting me and ignoring it when I called you out.- IE You are disingenuous and not arguing in good faith.

When you point out the overall reviews of Starfield and completely discredit the recent reviews, general public reception, content of reviews, etc - You are again, being disingenuous and not arguing in good faith.

Which, by the way, you are arguing one small point of a larger argument, because you know you would lose the larger conversation. Which is that the Steam Awards WERE weird, generated a public response, are misleading to customers, and is potentially embarrassing to Valve.

Then you googled "fallacies" and failed to accuse me of using them, when it's all you've been doing.

Not even mentioning NONE of this is the topic of thread, which you are capable of making yourself if you wanted to discuss these topics. You instead derailed mine.
You are a troll.

Yeah, I don't know about curating entirely, but there is some room for improvement there. With pure mob rule, I'm surprised "Sex with Hitler" or "Cuckold Simulator" didn't win GOTY.
Mob too small.
The botting problem is likely a bigger issue, but it has been for several of these Steam awards and only a tiny minority even pays attention to the awards or cares enough to raise an issue about it. But it is nice to see folks so animated to defend corporations.

You are a troll.
And the ad hom continues while the stated facts remain undisputed.

And there's not much to discredit when the latest reviews are nothing more than a response to a nonsense award mini game.

Let me know when you have some actual factual points to make.

Go have a blast yelling into the void in the comment sections there. They've even got Starfield in the thumbnail for you.

I guess, I'm not sure though. It is front and center for most of December on the store page.
And it's probably my fault for mentioning Starfield. I should've known it would just attract trolls like flies to rotting meat.

I haven't seen much about the botting, but if that's a contributing issue then Valve should definitely handle that.

For all the talk of Starfield being hit by trolls, the only trolls I am seeing are trying to frantically defend it. Just goes to show the difference between people who taking gaming seriously and people who view it as a series of corporations to defend and products to consume. Yes, it is totally natural that RDR2 gets labor of love for not having had any updates in two years. YOMI Hustle? Not innovative at all.

Or ... and this may sound like all radical man, but hear me out here bro ...
It could be ... I mean just maybe ... perhaps there are a few people ... well maybe more than a few ... a good handful ... perhaps many ... maybe most people nowadays perhaps ....
who actually see gaming for what it really, actually is.

And what could that possibly be? you ask!
Now this is where is really gets wild, man .....
Maybe they see gaming as the luxury hobby and pastime that it actually is. Just another form of entertainment that kills a few hours out of the day, and is a way to relax and escape the real world for a bit of time and not something that needs to be .... or really even ever should .... be taken seriously at all.

Mindblowing!!!

Wha...Wha...Whaaaaat!
Vote trolling is inevitable without Valve curation. However, any curation will effectively make "community vote" void. So do we let people choose, or do we let representatives choose? Or maybe both?

The problem is, in order to have curation, you would need manpower and time devoted to curating thousands of games. That in and of itself is simply a waste of resources. And then you would still have an entire slew of people complaining about the games that were curated because their personal fave didn't make the cut. At the end of the day there is zero benefit to making these awards into any thing other than what they are: a non-serious mini game and momentary distraction for some minor rewards.
