How about developing a proton for Mobile?
Turn steam Mobile into a real mobile gaming platform, and paired with an arm translation of x86 proton for Mobile .

Even if the performance loss is significant, it will allow many steam games to run on mobile.:argh:

This can greatly expand steam's prospects!

Proton and Wine are not emulators. They run x64/x86 code on x86/x64 systems, running almost natively translating system calls.

Android smartphones are using ARM cpu's, you'll need to translate from ARM to x86/x64 every instruction of the game, which is very slow.

IPhones also use non x86/x64 processors, so emulating them would be slow even on a new iPhone.

Also, how do you want to play games? Add sticks and buttons to the phone from both sides, like Switch controllers?

I never said wine is a emulator.
“proton for Android” which I mean
is a different thing from proton.
I even estimated the remaining performance after performance loss based on the efficiency of Rosetta 2, which games can be played.

it's just similar in function, that's why i called that way.

why both?controller or add sticks
Valve knows about the mobile market. If they plan on doing something, they will. No one here will sway them otherwise.

maybe they will see the post(just kidding
Stop bumping your thread. It's just users here anyway, nobody from Valve will respond other than perhaps locking the thread due to your bumping.

Best and only real option.

It wouldn't be viable for Valve to make something like proton for a phone. The differences are just too much and the cost would be far more then what they would benefit from.

steam has cooperated with nvdia cloud for a long time, but cloud game is not ready ready perfect yet,and steam link can be half cloud game platform.

“proton for Mobile” is not so hard as you thoughts, not to mention valve makes 130 billions dollars a year.
anybody?
we tried box64➕wine+dxvk on cell phone, its really works

To reach a market of 2 billion potential extra devices?

of course it is worth
One small issue with that. The average smartphone is way too weak to run PC games. So, that leaves only a very small fraction of enthusiast level smartphones to be able to run such games.
And those that can afford such a phone, usually already have either a powerful PC, or can simply afford one.

So, there is no useful incentive to lose tons of money to develop a wrapper or emulator to port x86-64 code to ARM based smartphones. Not to mention APIs like VULKAN, OpenGL, Direct3D and tons of middleware that games use like FMOD. Getting all that to work would take many years.

Just look how long it took Valve to get Proton on Linux to work. About a decade. So, if Valve started today, maybe we'll get results in 5-10 years.

And games get more demanding every year, making those games even less probable to work with comparatively low powered mobile devices.

Today's advanced devices will be in most people's hands in 5-7years, and valve has no future in this market unless it starts laying the groundwork now

Older games are a thing.

I think the idea has some merit to it. Dosen't mean in the slightest I think it's worth it. I certaintly don't and mostly agree with you.

But, part of me would like to have any phone do retrogaming with Valve. :) But, that's a pipedream most likely.

Don't expect the latest games to run in bulk on mobile phones, but bulk compatible games from the end of the ps3 and the beginning of the ps4
