Block YouTube ads in Steam browser
Please ship something like Ublock Origin and some blocklists that kill YouTube ads with Steam's integrated web browser.

Many guides rely on videos on YouTube and the ads are infuriating when you just need to watch a few seconds of video to find out how to do something but you end up having to sit through ten seconds of unskippable ad when you start playing the video before you can even seek to the section you need to look at.

If you're going to have guides in the client, keep them usable by removing the ads or force their use in an external browser.

Valve is not providing a way to block ad revenue streams from YouTube videos or any other website/streaming service.

You will have to do this on your own and at your own risk.

The steam browser isn't even meant to be used a substitute browser. Use your actual browser.

Not going to work when the ads come from the same domain as the content.

The existence of the Guides link on a game's library page and in the overlay says it is.

Then they should remove support for embedded videos in the guide pages and switch to plain links that'll be opened in the system's browser when clicked. This is a usability issue. It makes video-based guides almost unusable.

Just open the guide in your system browser.

You can already open your own browser at any time.

No one is making you watch youtube videos, even ones embedded in guides.

If you open the youtube video on a separate Steam window and starts a youtube add, you can go to some other youtube video on the list in the right side of the window and click back page and watch the first video add free.. also works on regular web browsers.

Oh, look at Mr Lucky who gets screenshot guides for all his games!

[sigh] If only every game would do that...

I don't like video guides. I tolerate them because quite often, they're the only sort available.

Some people don't think about that. Some may not even realize that the Steam client uses a browser for navigating many parts of the Steam site.

But letting ANY extension attach itself to the Steam client is just asking for nefarious extensions to start cropping up as well, ones specifically targeting the Steam client. It's vastly safer to not allow any extensions then to risk bad ones getting in. There's already enough issues with people getting their accounts hijacked, last thing we need is a Steam browser extension that secretly steals peoples information.

Using your own browser is the alternative.

The other alternative would be not watching YouTube videos, or watching YouTube videos the way YouTube is designed.

If you want to modify a website, you're going to need to use a tool for modifying websites. Steam isn't that.
Valve is not going to war (legal battle) with YouTube over allowing the use of adblockers in the Steam overlay so you can bypass a revenue stream YouTube has.

I can see YouTube removing the ability to link our Steam accounts to have videos shared here.
